UPDATE: While our investigation is ongoing, there have been no known exposures to the public identified at this time.
Kentucky health officials have confirmed 7 cases of measles in Laurel County. Laurel County Health Department is monitoring and responding to the situation, we encourage residents to stay informed.
The MMR vaccine is the best protection against measles. Make sure you and your family are up to date on vaccinations and know the signs and symptoms, including fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and rash.
In terms of vaccination status, you should be protected from measles if:
• You were born prior to 1957 or
• You had two Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination doses
• You have documented measles immunity (IgG+)
If you’re vaccine status is unknown, you may be able to access it here: https://kyirpublicportal.ky.gov/
Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications. If you believe you have been exposed or develop symptoms, contact your healthcare provider or local health department for guidance.
