Considering embolization for a hip, elbow, or shoulder? It helps to walk in with the right questions, not just the first answer you're given. πŸ“

Consider asking your provider:
βœ… Is my pain actually coming from the joint, or somewhere else?
βœ… What have I already tried, and has it been given enough time to work?
βœ… Am I a candidate for a minimally invasive option?
βœ… What does recovery realistically look like for this specific joint?
βœ… Could this affect my ability to have surgery later, if I ever need it?

The more informed you are, the more confident you'll feel in your healthcare decisions. πŸ’™

πŸ’ "I can't reach the top shelf anymore."
πŸ’ "I can't zip up my own dress."
πŸ’ "I can't reach my seatbelt behind me."
πŸ’ "Putting on a jacket is a whole production now."
πŸ’ "I didn't even injure it. It just got worse."

If any of those sound familiar, you might be dealing with adhesive capsulitis, more commonly known as frozen shoulder. It happens when the tissue around the shoulder joint gradually thickens and tightens, often without an obvious injury to explain it.

Traditional treatment often starts with physical therapy and injections. For patients who haven't found lasting relief, embolization is another option being studied to help reduce the inflammation driving the stiffness. 🩺

πŸ“© DM us if this sounds like what you're dealing with.

Did you know the reason plantar fasciitis often hurts most with your first steps in the morning has a specific explanation? πŸ€”

Overnight, the plantar fascia tightens back up. That first stretch when you stand is what triggers the sharp pain, especially if there's ongoing inflammation and abnormal blood flow feeding it.

Plantar fascia embolization targets those abnormal vessels directly, and it's worth discussing when months of stretching, orthotics and injections haven't worked.

🏷️ Tag someone who's been dealing with heel pain every morning.

Does physical therapy treat arthritis joint pain? πŸ’¬

Yes, and for most people it's the right place to start. PT builds strength around the joint, improves range of motion and can ease pain, which is why it's a first-line treatment for osteoarthritis.

What PT can't do is undo the wear inside the joint. That's why a lot of patients improve, then plateau, even after doing everything right.

When that happens, embolization is worth asking about. It targets the small, inflamed blood vessels around the joint, and it's an option for knee, hip, shoulder and elbow pain without surgery. πŸ’™

❌ The usual path: physical therapy, then wait, then see an orthopedist, then IR only as a last resort.

βœ… Where things are heading: IR and orthopedics in the same conversation earlier, with embolization discussed as one option among several rather than only after everything else has failed. 🦡

As Bone and Joint Health Action Week kicks off, it's worth knowing "see an orthopedist" isn't always the only next step. πŸ’™

πŸ“© DM us to ask if embolization could be an option for your joint pain.

Most people know we treat knee pain. Here's what a lot of patients don't realize. 🦡

βœ… Hip osteoarthritis and hip bursitis
βœ… Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
βœ… Shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder
βœ… Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
βœ… Knee osteoarthritis

If it's a joint dealing with chronic pain and inflammation, there's a good chance embolization is worth exploring. πŸ’™

πŸ“Œ Save this list, you might be surprised how many of these apply to you or someone you know.

❌ Myth: treating tennis elbow long term means surgery on the elbow itself.

βœ… Fact: elbow artery embolization is performed through a tiny access point in the wrist, not the elbow at all. πŸ’ͺ A catheter is guided from there to the small blood vessels feeding inflammation around the elbow.

For lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) that hasn't improved with rest, bracing, or injections, this offers another option before considering surgery. πŸ’™

πŸ’¬ Comment ELBOW if rest and bracing haven't fixed it, and we'll walk you through what's next.

A lot of patients dealing with hip pain describe the same frustrating gap: not bad enough for a replacement yet, but bad enough that daily life is affected anyway. 🦡

Hip artery embolization exists specifically for that gap. It targets the inflamed blood vessels driving the pain, without touching the joint itself, giving appropriate patients a real option while they wait or explore alternatives to surgery.

πŸ’¬ Not ready for a new hip? Comment HIP and we'll tell you if embolization could be your in-between option.

Not all shoulder pain is "just soreness." ⚠️

A few signs it's worth paying attention to:
β€’ Pain that's stuck around for more than a few weeks
β€’ Weakness when lifting or reaching overhead
β€’ A catching or grinding feeling with movement
β€’ Pain that wakes you up at night

None of these mean it's automatically serious, but they do mean it's worth getting checked instead of waiting it out. 🩺

For ongoing shoulder pain, Dr. Kovaleski offers shoulder artery embolization (SAE), a minimally invasive option that targets the inflammation behind the pain.

πŸ“Œ Save this for the next time your shoulder acts up.
