๐ฟ RAVINTSARA DEEP DIVE
Getting to Know Your Oils
DON'T HAVE RAVINTSARA? KEEP READING!
Here's something you might not know!
Ravintsara is one of the essential oils in doTERRA Breathe!
So you may already have it in your collection without realizing it.
And if you don't have either one, I'll share an emotional alternative blend using oils you may already own!
๐ The Oil of Clearing, Expansion & Renewal
Some oils help us slow down.
Some oils bring comfort.
And some oils remind us that life is about more than simply getting through another day.
Meet RAVINTSARA! ๐ฟ
Ravintsara has a fresh, eucalyptus-like aroma, but its emotional personality is what makes it especially interesting!
In emotional aromatherapy traditions, Ravintsara is associated with clarity, expansion, receptivity, and embracing life's possibilities.
It's not just about letting go of what's weighing us down.
It's about making room for everything life still has to offer.
Today we're exploring its physical properties, traditional uses, emotional personality, energetic associations, and even a little woo-woo!
๐ฟ FIRST, WHAT EXACTLY IS RAVINTSARA?
Ravintsara essential oil comes from the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora, particularly the 1,8-cineole chemotype associated with Madagascar.
Its aroma is fresh, camphoraceous, herbal, and slightly woody.
Some of its naturally occurring constituents include:
1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) โ Also found in Eucalyptus and Rosemary. It contributes to Ravintsara's fresh, penetrating aroma and has attracted research interest for several biological activities.
Sabinene โ A natural aromatic compound that contributes fresh, woody, and slightly spicy notes.
ฮฑ-Terpineol โ Contributes softer, floral, woody characteristics.
Here's something interesting!
Ravintsara and Ravensara are NOT the same essential oil!
Despite their similar names, they come from different plants and have different chemical compositions.
And even within Cinnamomum camphora, different chemotypes can produce remarkably different essential oils.
That's why understanding botanical names and chemical composition matters!
๐ IF RAVINTSARA WERE A PERSON...
Ravintsara would be the calm, clear-minded friend who walks into the room and somehow makes everything feel a little less overwhelming.
They're the friend who opens the windows, lets the fresh air in, and helps you sort through everything you've been carrying.
They don't try to fix everything.
They don't push you to make changes.
But they might ask you something you haven't thought about in a long time.
"When was the last time you did something just because it made you feel alive?"
Because Ravintsara isn't only about clearing away the clutter.
Its symbolic personality is also about remembering there's a whole world of experiences waiting beyond our daily responsibilities.
It's the friend who reminds you:
"Life isn't only about what needs to get done. It's also about what you allow yourself to experience."
๐ THE EMOTIONAL SIDE OF RAVINTSARA
In emotional aromatherapy, Ravintsara is sometimes called the Oil of Expansion.
I think that's an interesting way to describe its personality!
Think about how easily we can fall into the routine of simply getting through our days.
We wake up thinking about everything that needs to be done.
We're planning tomorrow while trying to finish today.
We're worrying about people we love.
Solving problems.
Managing responsibilities.
And sometimes we become so busy keeping life moving that we forget to actually enjoy it.
Ravintsara symbolically represents:
- Mental clarity and perspective
- Releasing emotional heaviness
- Expanding beyond old limitations
- Becoming receptive to new possibilities
- Moving through difficult experiences
- Creating space for personal growth
- Fully participating in life
Its message is simple:
"Don't become so busy managing your life that you forget to live it."
Of course, essential oils cannot remove emotional burdens, eliminate mental fog, or resolve trauma.
But scent can become a meaningful part of mindfulness, relaxation, and personal-reflection routines.
๐ฌ๏ธ RAVINTSARA & THE SYMBOLISM OF BREATHING
Here's where this oil's personality becomes especially interesting.
Breathing is something we do all day without thinking about it.
But have you ever noticed how your breathing changes when you're stressed?
Maybe you hold your breath while concentrating.
Or notice your breathing becomes shallow when you're anxious.
Stress really can influence our breathing patterns.
But in emotional aromatherapy, breathing can also become a beautiful metaphor for how we approach life.
Are we allowing ourselves room to grow?
Are we open to new experiences?
Or have we become so overwhelmed by responsibilities that our world feels smaller and smaller?
Ravintsara's symbolic message encourages us to pause and make room for life.
Not just another task.
Not another obligation.
But something that makes us feel connected, present, and alive.
Sometimes we need to stop simply existing from one responsibility to the next and remember what it feels like to enjoy the moment we're in.
๐ RAVINTSARA & THE ART OF RECEIVING
This might be my favorite part of its emotional personality!
We're often taught the importance of giving.
- Giving our time.
- Giving our energy.
- Helping others.
- Being dependable.
And there's nothing wrong with any of those things!
But how comfortable are we with receiving?
- Receiving help.
- Receiving kindness.
- Receiving opportunities.
- Receiving compliments.
Or simply allowing ourselves to enjoy something without feeling like we need to earn it first?
Sometimes we're so accustomed to taking care of everyone else that receiving feels uncomfortable.
We may feel guilty resting.
Guilty asking for help.
Or guilty doing something just for ourselves.
Ravintsara symbolically represents receptivity.
The willingness to make room for something good without needing to control every detail.
And here's something worth remembering:
You can be a giving person without always being the one who gives.
Sometimes personal growth means learning to receive, too.
๐ FINDING GROWTH THROUGH DIFFICULT EXPERIENCES
Another interesting part of Ravintsara's emotional personality is its association with perspective and growth.
Life doesn't always unfold the way we hoped.
We experience disappointment.
Unexpected changes.
Loss.
And situations that leave us questioning everything we thought we knew.
I don't believe every painful experience happens because we're supposed to learn something.
Some things are simply heartbreaking or unfair.
But even after difficult experiences, we may discover new strengths, priorities, or possibilities.
We may begin seeing life differently.
Recognizing what truly matters.
Or realizing that something we once considered important no longer deserves so much of our energy.
Ravintsara's symbolic message isn't about pretending painful experiences are blessings.
It's about recognizing that our lives can continue unfolding, even when the path looks different from what we expected.
"What happened may have changed your path, but it doesn't mean your story has stopped unfolding."
โจ NOW LET'S GET A LITTLE WOO-WOO!
Ravintsara has some fascinating symbolic associations in spiritual and energetic aromatherapy!
๐ต THE THROAT CHAKRA
Traditionally connected with communication, self-expression, and speaking our truth.
Ravintsara's personality can represent:
โจ Expressing our needs
โจ Setting healthy boundaries
โจ Speaking honestly and kindly
โจ Giving ourselves permission to say no
Sometimes we need to stop pretending we can handle everything and simply say:
"I need help."
๐ THE THIRD EYE CHAKRA
Associated with intuition, insight, and perspective.
Symbolically, Ravintsara represents stepping away from overwhelming thoughts so we can see situations more clearly.
Sometimes clarity isn't about finding all the answers.
It's about recognizing the next small step.
๐ THE HEART CHAKRA
Associated with compassion, emotional openness, and receiving love.
Here's something interesting!
We often think about love in terms of what we give to others.
But what about allowing ourselves to receive it?
Ravintsara symbolically encourages us to make room for support, connection, and kindness.
These chakra associations are spiritual interpretations, not scientifically proven effects of essential oils.
๐ฎ RAVINTSARA & ENERGETIC EXPANSION
In spiritual aromatherapy, Ravintsara is associated with clearing stagnant energy and remaining receptive to life's possibilities.
Think about opening all the windows in a house that's been closed up for a while.
Fresh air moves in.
The atmosphere feels different.
And suddenly the space feels more inviting.
Our emotional lives can sometimes feel similar.
We become attached to routines.
Old beliefs.
Expectations.
Or fears about what might happen if we try something different.
Ravintsara symbolizes making room for something new.
Not because everything old is bad.
But because sometimes we've outgrown the space we've created for ourselves.
"You can't always welcome something new while holding tightly to everything familiar."
๐ค THE SHADOW SIDE OF RAVINTSARA
Every oil personality has a shadow side!
Ravintsara's strength is expansion.
But the desire to expand can become constantly searching for something better.
Its desire for clarity can become overthinking.
Its openness to possibilities can become difficulty making decisions.
And its desire to release burdens can become avoiding responsibilities or uncomfortable feelings.
Here's the deeper lesson.
Expansion doesn't mean you have to constantly change your life.
Sometimes growth happens right where you are.
Sometimes the next step is learning to appreciate what you already have.
And sometimes the most meaningful change is simply allowing yourself to enjoy life without feeling guilty about it.
๐ฟ WHAT ABOUT THE PHYSICAL SIDE?
Ravintsara is traditionally associated with seasonal wellness and refreshing respiratory aromas.
Let's explore a few of its everyday applications!
๐ฌ๏ธ RESPIRATORY AROMA
Because of its 1,8-cineole content, Ravintsara has a fresh, eucalyptus-like scent.
It's commonly included in diffuser and diluted chest massage blends.
It pairs beautifully with Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Cardamom, and Copaiba.
Although its aroma can feel refreshing, that doesn't establish that it physically opens airways or treats respiratory infections or lung conditions.
๐ธ PAIRING RAVINTSARA WITH OTHER OIL PERSONALITIES
