UCLA Health and the LA Chargers welcomed a group of cancer survivors to SoFi Stadium for a special Crucial Catch game day on Sunday, Oct. 11. Crucial Catch is the NFL’s annual cancer awareness campaign focused on fighting cancer through early detection and promoting cancer screenings.

From pregame activities to half-time performances, the day honored cancer survivors and provider “heroes” from the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. It was a celebration, full of shared hope and friendship.

California Baby founder and CEO Jessica Iclisoy has teamed up with UCLA Health to create custom postpartum care kits featuring plant-based, sustainable essentials for new parents and their little ones.

The kits are now being gifted to labor and delivery patients at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

UCLA graduate Samuel Idahosa spent years navigating the pain and challenges of sickle cell disease. Now, after receiving Lyfgenia, a newly approved gene therapy, he is considered cured.

UCLA Health was one of the first medical centers to offer Lyfgenia, which modifies a patient’s own blood-forming stem cells to produce hemoglobin that doesn’t sickle.
