š Call for International Research Collaboration | AI in Dentistry
DeepCare, in collaboration with the clinical team at Shanghai Ninth Peopleās Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (National Center for Stomatology, China), is seeking universities, dental schools, hospitals, academic medical centers, and research institutions worldwide interested in international research collaboration in dental AI.
We are currently working on two research projects:
1ļøā£ Multicenter Prospective Study on AI-Assisted Panoramic Radiograph Interpretation
This study aims to evaluate whether AI assistance can improve general dentistsā diagnostic performance in routine clinical practice.
The study will compare dentistsā assessments with and without AI assistance, with a focus on missed findings, false-positive findings, and disease-specific diagnostic performance.
Key research areas include:
⢠Panoramic radiographs acquired for existing clinical indications, with no additional imaging required solely for research
⢠Common dental findings, including caries, radiographic alveolar bone loss, periapical radiolucencies, impacted teeth, and residual roots
⢠Evaluation of diagnostic performance, interpretation time, and referral recommendations
We welcome institutions with access to panoramic imaging, general dentists, and relevant clinical experts, as well as the ability to support local ethics approval and study implementation.
2ļøā£ Multimodal Large AI Model for Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging and Diagnosis
This project aims to develop a multimodal large AI model with CBCT as a core imaging modality, integrating panoramic radiographs, other relevant medical imaging, pathology information, clinical records, and diagnostic reports.
Key research areas include:
⢠Lesion detection and localization
⢠Medical image segmentation
⢠Disease diagnosis and differential diagnosis
⢠Quantitative and structural analysis
⢠Structured clinical interpretation
International partners may participate based on their available resources. Research data are not limited to CBCT, and the scope of collaboration can be tailored to each institutionās research interests, resources, and feasibility.
š¬ Who We Are Looking For
We welcome collaboration with:
Universities | Dental Schools | Dental Hospitals | Academic Medical Centers | Research Institutions
Institutions are welcome to participate in either or both projects, depending on their research interests and available resources.
Specific arrangements regarding ethics approval, data governance and privacy, study implementation, software deployment, authorship, and publication will be discussed and agreed upon with participating institutions.
