The 2030 SDG deadline is not far. At GHS 2027, Plenary 1 will open the summit by addressing one of the most pressing questions in the field: what will it actually take to get there?

The session will cover the current state of HBV and HCV prevalence reduction and what is still required, whether an HBV cure is necessary to reverse the increasing death toll of hepatitis B, and the potential of human infection models in the development of an HCV vaccine.

Three talks. Three questions the field cannot afford to leave unanswered.

Explore the full preliminary program and register before the Early Bird deadline on December 18, 2026.

Why should GHS 2027 be on your calendar?

Because this is where the global hepatitis community meets to share the science that shapes clinical practice, informs public health policy, and moves us closer to elimination.

Over four days at the Technical University of Munich, you will have access to plenary sessions on the most pressing questions in the field, 12 parallel tracks across basic-translational science, clinical research, and public health, dedicated workshops, industry symposia, and the kind of peer conversations that only happen in a room like this.

Registration is open. Early Bird rates are available until December 18, 2026.

The first International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease was held in San Francisco in 1972. Since then, the meeting has traveled to 10 countries across the globe, shaping the course of hepatitis science with every edition.

From Tokyo to Paris, Toronto to Los Angeles, each summit has marked a moment in the field. In 2027, the 20th edition comes to Munich for what promises to be the most significant gathering yet, as the global community accelerates toward the 2030 elimination targets.

Behind GHS 2027 is a committee that reflects the full breadth of the global hepatitis field.

Led by Co-Chairs Robert Thimme, Ulrike Protzer, and Heiner Wedemeyer, the Organizing Committee brings together expertise spanning clinical research, basic science, public health policy, and global health implementation, with representation from Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States.

Their collective work shapes a program designed to move the field forward, not just reflect where it stands.
