Meet Shana đź’™

She’s part of our team, and she’s sharing one of the side effects she wasn’t really warned about: dry mouth.

Not just “drink more water” dry mouth. The kind that changes how food tastes, wakes you up at night, and makes everyday things feel harder than they should.

It’s common during treatment, but it doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.

If this has been part of your experience, you’re not alone. And if you’re starting treatment soon, ask about your mouth early. There are things that can help.

What’s something you wish someone had warned you about?

Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day 💓🩵

It falls in the middle of the pinkest month of the year, and too often, it gets passed over.

Metastatic breast cancer, also called Stage IV breast cancer, means cancer has spread beyond the breast to another part of the body. It isn’t considered curable, and treatment usually doesn’t end.

For people living with MBC, treatment isn’t a season. It’s ongoing. And so are the side effects that come with it, like dry mouth, dental issues, taste changes, and daily discomfort that doesn’t always get talked about.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month should have room for this reality too đź’™

October, unfiltered đź’—

This month, you’re going to see a lot of pink. We’re doing something a little different.

Every post this month will talk about one thing about cancer that doesn’t always get said out loud. The side effects nobody warns you about, the questions people are too polite to ask, and the parts of treatment that don’t fit neatly on a ribbon.

(un)seen. (un)spoken. (un)comfortable. (un)pink.

It’s also the last October we’ll be called (un)cancer, so we’re going out by saying the quiet parts out loud.

If there’s something you wish someone had told you, tell us in the comments. We may make a post about it 💙

Shana from the (un)cancer team spent the weekend at the BRCA Strong Education That Empowers Summit đź’™ It was a full day of learning from doctors, survivors, and advocates, with real conversations, helpful takeaways, and so many people coming together around education and support.

She also came home with a new book for the reading list, Beyond the Pink by Dr. Eleonora Teplinsky.

We love seeing our team out in the community, learning, connecting, and bringing those conversations back to the work we do every day. Thank you, BRCA Strong, for such a meaningful event and for creating a space that feels both empowering and supportive đź’™

Blood cancer treatment can affect so much more than people realize, including the mouth.

Mouth sores, dry mouth, bleeding gums, and a higher risk of infection can make everyday care feel harder, especially on the bad days. That’s why gentle, consistent mouth care matters during treatment.

For Blood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re wearing red and reminding patients that comfort care counts too.

Save this for your routine, or send it to someone going through treatment ❤️

Chemo can make even the little things feel different, including brushing your teeth 🩵

If your mouth feels extra sensitive, your usual toothpaste suddenly stings, or brushing just isn’t as comfortable as it used to be, you’re definitely not alone.

A gentler oral care routine can make those everyday moments feel a little easier. Because sometimes, relief really is in the small things 🤍

Prostate cancer can be quiet.
And sometimes, so are the side effects that come with treatment.

That’s why checking in matters. Not just “how are you?” but the little questions that make someone feel seen:

Are you eating okay?
Is anything tasting different?
Are you more tired than usual?
What would make today a little easier?

This September, wear light blue, start the conversation, and remind the men in your life they don’t have to go through it alone.

Here for all of it đź’™

TEAL & PEACH🎗️

There is no reliable screening test for ovarian cancer. Most cases are found at stage 3 or later which means treatment usually starts hard and fast.

The side effects nobody puts in the pamphlet:

→ Dry mouth bad enough to wake you up for water
→ Taste changes that turn food you love metallic
→ Sensitive teeth after months of nausea and reflux
→ Cracked, peeling lips from every direction at once
→ Clothes that hurt against a port or a fresh scar

You are not being dramatic. These are documented treatment effects and they deserve real products, not drugstore guesswork.

September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month — ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar. Wear teal 💚
