One night back in DC. Same streets, different standards.

I have so much affection for who I was here. But I’m proud I can walk through this neighborhood without wanting that chapter back.

I built a leadership assessment. And I’m done whispering about it.

Because “let’s circle back” has become an expensive team habit.

The Decision Velocity Index™ examines how leaders decide under pressure -and the patterns that keep everyone else waiting.

I built the tool I kept wanting in the room.

Ready to look at what’s happening in yours?

You learn a lot about a workplace by what people wait until the parking lot to say.

The concern they swallowed.
The deadline everyone knew was impossible.
The behavior people quietly warned new hires about.

I’ve worked in those places. Where naming the thing meant risking your reputation while the thing itself got to stay.

That history comes with me into the team building sessions, trainings, and workshops I facilitate today.

Because asking people to “speak up more” means very little if they’ve watched someone pay for doing exactly that.

People remember whose concern got dismissed as negativity. Whose directness became an “attitude problem.” Who stopped contributing after being embarrassed in a meeting.

And they adjust.

Meanwhile, the work suffers. Risks surface too late. Problems get worked around instead of resolved. Leaders make decisions without information their teams already have.

If you lead people, ask yourself:

What did my response to the last uncomfortable truth teach my team about telling me the next one?

That answer matters more than the open-door policy.

What’s one thing workplaces need to make it easier to say out loud?

It was 11 p.m. I was checking into a hotel with my dog. And the people at the front desk were so kind that I’m still thinking about them this morning.

They could have handed me a key and pointed toward the elevator. Instead, their warmth became the part I remembered.

I pay attention to that.

How you treat someone when you’re busy. Whether you make them feel like an inconvenience. Whether there’s room for a little humanity in an interaction you’ve had a hundred times already.

Kindness is one of the things I want people to be able to count on from me. Even when I’m tired. Even when my to-do list has developed its own to-do list.

Receiving it last night reminded me why.

We rarely know everything someone is carrying when they arrive in front of us. I want to be someone who makes it a little easier to be there.

And if you’re also kind to Harris? You’ve secured a deeply loyal, slightly irrational fan. 🐾

What’s a small kindness you still remember?

You can’t predict when the thing you’ve been working toward will happen. And yes, the waiting can make you question everything.

But a quiet season isn’t proof that nothing is moving. Keep showing up. Keep making the call, sending the pitch, doing the work, and living your life while you wait.

You don’t need to know WHEN to believe it’s still possible. 🤍

You asked her to be decisive. She made a call you didn’t like. Now she’s “difficult.”

Did you want her judgment…or her agreement?

Sometimes there’s a four-hour conversation underneath “I’m good. Just a lot going on.”

Dinner with my sister - talking life, work, love, and grief - reminded me of a leadership lesson: the first answer isn’t always the whole answer.

When someone you lead says, “I’m fine,” do you leave room for anything else? Can they ask for support without worrying you’ll question their ability?

You don’t need access to someone’s entire personal life to lead with care. You do need to make honesty safe - and respond with something more useful than “You’ve got this.”

Being capable doesn’t cancel someone’s need to be supported. Including yours.

45 looks like fall foliage, salty hair, and a seaside birthday with a man who makes me pay for everything. 🐾

Harris planned nothing. Loved every minute.

I’m making more room for days that feel as good as the life I’m working so hard to build.

New Hampshire, you showed off. 🍂🌊🥂

45. I thought I’d have more figured out by now.

I didn’t expect to feel this proud of myself and this uncertain at the same time. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

This year brought me closer to home. Deeper into building something I believe in. And up against the limits of what trying harder can solve.

Watching my mother get older.
Building a business without knowing exactly when the work will pay off.
Letting go of things I wanted badly enough to keep explaining away what was missing.

Some of it still hurts. I don’t have a beautiful lesson for all of it.

But I’m learning to tell myself the whole truth.

I love my life, and I want parts of it to change.
I’m capable of carrying a lot, and I’m tired.
I’m proud of my independence, and I want to be held.

Today, there was ocean air in New Hampshire, fall colors, and Harris beside me. Nothing needed to become anything. I got to enjoy being there.

At 45, I want more moments I don’t mentally leave to worry about what’s next.

I’m calling in love I can relax into. Financial breathing room. Work that grows with people beside me. Plane tickets. Deep friendships. Laughing so hard I forget what I was worried about.

And I’m practicing wanting all of it without making my life today feel insufficient.

What hasn’t happened yet is not proof that I’m behind.

Happy birthday to me.

There is so much here worth celebrating - even here, in the middle of figuring it out. 🤍
