Have you been practicing your Summer Series?
Don’t let this season wipe you out. If you’re feeling groggy, do some deep breathing and gentle movement. That will perk you up and get your mental wheels turning at total efficiency!
Check our Feed or Highlights for the full Summer Series practice, complete with descriptions. Have questions? Ask us!
Newness
How is your new moon cycle, new week treating you? What is growing around and inside of you? When you look around, really observe the small and beautiful changes around you. The days keep going by, but we get to choose how much we interact with the passing of time.
Sometimes, when you’re practicing away, you have the sudden urge to stop and lay down. Well, what if you just did that?
Practice for your body.
Day 4, the finale of our Summer Posture Series releases the stress and tension that builds up in the legs, hips and lower back.
Ease the physical fatigue from doing all the fun summer activities by taking this mild heart-opener followed by a very rejuvenating inversion.
Supported Bridge can be enjoyed for 5 minutes, and Viparita Karani can be enjoyed for up to 5 minutes. If you’d like to put your legs up a wall, you can hold the inversion for longer and relax more deeply into it.
- block can be exchanged for a blanket or pillow
Day 3 of our Summer Posture Series squeezes and squishes the solar plexus (in the abdomen), giving our inner sunny center a kind of massage.
Ring out your solar center with this 2-posture series. It is a nice release for the low back; supportive of the digestive system; and once the pose is done, makes your body feel wide and relaxed.
Ardha Apanasana into Jathara Parivartanasana
Take this duo in parts, breathing deeply into the knee hug for 1 minute and then gliding your leg across for another minute. Adjust your twist to work for you. You may have to shift your hips or lower your back arm or turn your head to accommodate your needs on any given day.
- can be done in bed!
- can be done with the bottom leg bent.
Extending a Warm Welcome to our Summer Posture Series!
This series is about sprawling out and resting. Drop your body into the position that feels most natural, big and low to the floor. We hope you enjoy!
This is a Bolster-Supported Backbend. The bolster (for which a bed pillow can be exchanged) is laid lengthwise. Sit in front of it and recline back until your head and spine and supported and content.
Variations: add another pillow - place a blanket or thin pillow under head - change your leg position to suit you - enjoy the pose in bed!
Rest here 5 minutes and notice how refreshed you feel!

Happy Solstice! -
Happy Solstice! Summer is officially here. This season is one of magnified energetic expansion. It will fuel us and get us moving. It exacerbates the effects of the Solar Plexus Chakra, so if that happens to be a bit dim, this is the season to brighten it right up. This season is confident and loud;...
Do you ever just take your shoes and socks off, and feel your feet against the soft, cool earth or warm, grainy sand? I bet you do, considering you practice yoga with bare feet! This is the most basic form of grounding. Touch the ground with intention. Feel the earth underneath you and acknowledge the texture and temperature and density. Feel every part of your body that connects to it. Use this final pose to dive deeply into this connection from head to toe.
Surfboard
A resting posture.
This posture can be so restful, so calming, so physically restoring that it can be used as an alternative to Savasana. Feel free to do this posture on a cushy surface or to prop up a stack of blankets under your torso and roll a towel under your ankles. Let your body drop into gravity. Let the ground come up to meet you. Allow yourself to be.
Grounding Series
When life gives you flowers, smell them! And then consider how they got to be there. Their seeds sprouted roots underground. Their roots push deeper into the earth, stabilizing them in place. They take their time to grow, phase by phase, utilizing light and water and air and earth’s nutrients. Finally, after they’ve pushed through the earth, and allowed themselves to be vulnerable to the world above ground, they expand! They become softer and more recognizable and bigger and brighter! At no point have they lost their foundation, their roots, their support. They root, so they can rise.
Utkatasana
Standing postures teach us all about rooting and rising. They solidify our connection with gravity simply by letting the lower body do what it does best in a healthy body: stand. Of course, we can take this lesson into sitting postures easily enough and into any sort of spinal awareness form. The lesson here is that in order to build height and take up space in a posture, it has to be rooted, stable, grounded. In a standing postures, like Utkatasana, that means the feet feel and connect deeply with the ground; the feet, ankles and legs engage strongly to sit back; the core fires up to extend higher; and the spine and arms reach out of this secure foundation. Stabilize, reach and breathe deeply!
Varitations:
Place a block between the thighs for thigh and core stabilization.
Sit in a chair with legs engaged and torso powerfully uplifted.
Widen or lower your arms if there’s tightness around the shoulders and over-extension in the spine.

Grounding Series
As we continue to embrace the ever-shifting sights and sounds, scents and surprises of this Spring, it is helpful to remember to stay grounded. This 3-posture practice will reset our connection to the ground, root (muladhara) chakra, and the stabilization that the lower body provides.
Utplutihih
Let’s begin with a lesson in Mula Bandha (Root Lock).
Mula Bandha provides a sense of stability and calm, while enhancing concentration on one’s yoga practice.
A Brief How To:
To begin, find a comfortable seat. Breathe smooth, steady breaths. Gently pull together and up between the p***c bone, tailbone, and 2 sit bones. Put no more than 30% of effort into this. It is subtle.
Continue to practice and get more comfortable with this by activating and releasing the contraction.
When this practice becomes easier, try to activate on the inhale and release on the exhale.
When this breath-based practice becomes easier, people male bodies will work on lightly activating the muscles around the perineum and those with female bodies will work on gently activating area around the base of the cervix.
More and detailed information on Mula Bandha can be found using a variety of resources. Please ask questions if you have them.
When performing Utplitihih (the pose shown), activate Mula Bandha to help hold your seat above the ground with stability and ease. Breathe deeply. Lower with control.
Variations:
Use blocks under the hands
Cross legs instead of taking Lotus Pose
Lift seat and let feet stay on the floor
Lift seat and one foot
Please enjoy a sound offering for Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day!To be a mother is an incredible thing. To be a feminine is something we all possess. Take a moment to reflect on the ways in which you use...

Wishing you a gentle New Moon. This week has presented challenges, both disheartening and life-altering. This week’s challenge is not just in dealing with how our safety and freedom are governed, but also how we deal with our standard activities, the daily trials that we must face and confront and transition through, just to pop up for another day. It’s a lot, even on a good day. There have been more students in class this week and that’s good - to come together in a positive and safe setting, to breathe together and work through our physical reaction. And we can keep doing those nourishing things that keep our heads up, ready to speak out and lend a hand. This is all to say, be kind to yourself and the people you come in contact with. Perhaps try this exercise (detailed below), and reach out if you need support. We can get through the day together. Diaphragmatic Breathing in Surfboard Pose ASANA Lay prone with your head resting on your hands. Sometimes a blanket or towel feel nice in lieu of or over the top of your hands. Squiggle around and get comfortable. Take up space. PRANAYAMA Steady your breath until it feels soft, yet smooth. Send your breath down into your abdomen and press your belly into the ground (feel the softening around your back muscles). Exhale slowly and feel your weight drop down. Focus on your abdomen as you repeat this exercise for 12 breaths. Then, rest. BENEFITS Great for calming your nervous system. Good to try right before a good night’s sleep. An excellent option when all you can do is lay down. #newmoon #rest #sleep #parasympatheticresponse #inthistogether #whentragedystrikes #takeupspace #breathe #asana

The Healing Power of Sound Sound has the potential to calm an over-active mind, relax an ailing body, and balance an unstable nervous system. (Check out the Research Review on our FB) The sound draws us into the natural shifting / changing / vibrating of each moment. When we can become present and fall into the flow with what is, we are able to release. Perhaps we’re simply releasing resistance or perhaps we’re releasing layers upon layers of deeply-held emotional and physiological tension. In our experience with our @modularsoundbath events, we’ve heard participants tell us of aching muscles “finally” relaxing, deep meditative states, intuitive inspiration and inner conversations, and oh so much more. It can be a powerful practice. In our continued efforts to offer helpful tools we believe in, that help calm, empower and make us all better humans, we’re offering a Summer Solstice 3-Series of sound baths this weekend! We invite you to subscribe to “modular sound Bath” on YouTube and watch. Friday: 7:30-8:15pm (Includes a complete sound healing) Saturday: 2-3:30pm (Includes pranayama, chanting, meditation, sound healing) Sunday: 10am-12pm (Includes pranayama, yoga, meditation, sound healing) Donations are greatly appreciated: tinyurl.com/modsoundbath (link in bio)
