Accessibility Gets You There. Inclusion Lets You Play.
An accessible pathway is important. But what happens when a child reaches the playground?
Can they join the fun? Can they explore equipment that meets their abilities? Is there somewhere to retreat when the playground becomes overwhelming? Are there opportunities to connect with other children?
True inclusive design considers the whole child—not just physical mobility, but sensory, cognitive, emotional, and social needs, too.
At Inclusion Matters by Shane's Inspiration, we've spent nearly 30 years championing playgrounds that offer different ways to participate, because no two children experience play in exactly the same way.
Getting onto the playground is just the beginning. Being part of the play is what really matters.
