Fighting urges to dip into the Halloween candy bowl again? 🎃

👀 Look at the meal you ate last. Was it PROTEIN*FAT+FIBER?

Start there, then try these blood sugar tricks👉🏽1 tbsp ACV in a shot of water before meals, a tsp of Ceylon cinnamon in your coffee or chia pudding, and the supplements I reach for with clients when sugar season kicks off: magnesium, myo-inositol, B’s, glycine, NAC + berberine

🍫I know I’m not the only one craving Halloween candy right. But instead of the overly-processed stuff, I’m reaching for this dark chocolate bark made with nutrient-dense ingredients—chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, goji berries, and a pinch of sea salt. It hits that sweet spot and gives you antioxidants, healthy fats, and minerals your hormones will thank you for🙌🏽

When it’s down every aisle we look and in giant bowls around the office—it’s so hard to resist. FYI, sugar is actually 8x more addictive than co***ne 😳 because it gives our brain that same dopamine rush when we eat too much of it

So instead of the overly-processed junk, try this homemade dark chocolate bark🍫⤵️⤵️

✨ Melt 1 bag of dark chocolate chips with a tbsp of coconut oil; pour onto a parchment-covered baking sheet
✨ Sprinkle 1 tbsp. chia seeds, 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds, 1/4 cup goji berries (or dried cherries!) + sea salt (I used )
✨ Chill in the fridge for 2 hours, break apart, and enjoy your nutrient-dense Halloween “candy”

If your cravings for sugar + carbs (like pasta, bread, crackers) are intense, this can be a sign of insulin resistance—meaning your cells struggle to properly absorb sugar from your bloodstream. That imbalance messes with detoxification, hormones, immune health—EVERYTHING

Better energy, clearer skin, less bloating, balanced hormones👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽All of it depends on actually breaking down + absorbing what you eat

You need robust stomach acid to digest protein, absorb minerals (like iron) + B12, and keep parasites, bacteria, and fungi in-check. When it runs low, nutrients go unabsorbed and the door opens to SIBO, dysbiosis, and leaky gut👹

Signs yours may be low⤵️⤵️⤵️
➪ Uncomfortably full or bloated after meals
➪ Acid reflux
➪ Cramping or nausea
➪ Constipation or diarrhea
➪ Undigested food in your stool
➪ Brittle nails and thinning hair
➪ Acne and allergies (yes, there’s a link)

What lowers it⤵️⤵️⤵️
➪ Chronic stress
➪ Acid blockers (Rx + OTC like Tums or Pepcid)
➪ Alcohol
➪ A diet high in sugar + processed food
➪ A long stretch of vegan or vegetarian eating
➪ Zinc deficiency
➪ H. pylori infection
➪ Autoimmune conditions
➪ Age or stomach surgery

Ways to support yours starting today👉🏽chew every bite thoroughly (digestion starts in your mouth), slow down at meals, cut back on processed food, and skip liquids with dinner so you’re not diluting the acid you have

Betaine HCl can be really helpful for many people, but it’s not a DIY supplement, and never one to take with ulcers or heartburn. Two people with low stomach acid can need very different protocols✔️

Happy Saturday! I don’t want to jinx us, but we are having PERFECT fall weather in LA right now…finally!🍂

Here’s how I know:

• I had to put in my ‘warmer’ Barefoot Dreams robe when I woke up
• I ordered my latte hot not iced
• I wore a jacket and didn’t have to take it off
• I made pumpkin muffins
• I roasted a squash

…and I’m considering, maybe watching a Halloween movie later! Maybe…if it’s not too scary 👹🎃

What fall things are you finally getting around to doing? Please share! We want some fall-inspo

Truth: your blood sugar is shaped by every meal, every drink, every stressful moment of your day and how you slept✔️

The one ‘hard truth’ I explain to clients most is w**e. Your liver works the night shift, keeping your blood sugar steady while you sleep. Alcohol interrupts that job, which is why a glass of w**e can have you wide awake at 3am. If you want to drink, the earlier in the day, the better. Think brunch, or happy hour with food. Then make sure to eat a balanced dinner with PROTEIN+FAT+FIBER, because the dip hits harder when your glycogen stores are already low

Stress plays a part too. Cortisol raises blood sugar on purpose, so your body has fuel to handle a threat. It can’t tell a deadline from a predator

📌Pick the truth that stung a little and start there

Cravings are your body asking for fuel it didn’t get earlier…so your 4pm sugar craving is usually a 1pm lunch problem🤯

When a meal is mostly carbs, glucose rises fast, insulin rushes in to clear it, and you drop just as fast. Your brain reads that drop as “eat something sweet, now.” Build lunch around protein + fat + fiber. Eat the carbs last

🥩 Protein + fat slow the rise
🥬 Fiber softens the curve
🚶‍♀️ A short walk (or do some squats!) lets your muscles pull that glucose in

Tonight, eat your vegetables and protein first and save the starch for the last few bites. Same plate, different order, less chocolate cravings in the evening

If you’re already doing the basics and cravings still win, there’s usually something deeper going on. Sugar-loving gut bacteria, a stress pattern or a sleep issue can all keep you hooked on sugar (or chips, or whatever!)
