Why does your skin keep getting dry? Sometimes, it’s having trouble holding onto moisture.

Your skin barrier helps keep moisture in and irritants out. Think of it like a brick wall: skin cells are the bricks, and natural fats fill the spaces between them. When that barrier weakens, moisture escapes more easily.

Support it with simple daily care:
✓ Wash gently with warm water and a mild cleanser.
✓ Pat dry rather than rub.
✓ Moisturize regularly with a fragrance-free cream or ointment.

For your feet, dry thoroughly between your toes and keep that area free of moisturizer.

Years ago, our founder Erika was given nail lacquer to help manage her husband’s cracked skin.

The thinking is understandable: there’s a split in the skin, so close the split.

But a cracked callus isn’t just a surface opening. The crack can extend through the hardened layer of skin, and sealing the surface doesn’t address what’s happening underneath. Household superglue also isn’t the same as the medical-grade skin adhesives clinicians use on appropriately prepared wounds.

The goal isn’t simply to seal the crack. It’s to address the hardened, inflexible skin around it — and the pressure that caused it in the first place.

And if a foot crack is bleeding, draining, discolored, or you have diabetes, neuropathy or poor circulation, it’s a good reason to contact your healthcare provider rather than trying to seal it at home.
