Homecooked food is my favorite. When I am missing home, I make grits and eggs which was a Sunday brunch classic my dad usually cooked growing up. I have taken on the practice of eating to honor my ancestors and our traditions in a way that resonates with me. Food can be comforting and since I need to eat this is how I modify my meal to nourish my body.
I rarely eat dairy so I substitute nutritional yeast to support my microbiome and it is gluten-free and rich in B vitamins and minerals including iron. I want the Saccharomyces cerevisiae to keep candida and other yeast that can be pathogenic in check. Food feeds not just our metabolic needs but also the microbes that co-exist within our GI tract to produce proteins and neurotransmitters necessary for our mental and emotional health. 🥷🏽
I found that seeds and nuts make my grits creamy (think nut butters). Today, I used sesame seeds to support where I am in the ovarian cycle. Eggs contain heme and non heme iron which will help increase iron absorption which is important for any menstruating woman.
The tasty is more nutty because of the sesame seeds. It varies depending on if I add cashews or whatever other nut, seed combo.
