Those first few steps out of bed shouldn’t define how you feel about your body.

If you wake up stiff after 50, it’s easy to think, “I’m just getting older.” But that doesn’t tell you what your muscles and joints need.

In this video, I demonstrate two ways to begin your morning with gentle, active resistance. You’ll use your hands to resist your muscles’ effort, working slowly within a comfortable range.

The goal isn’t to pull yourself farther into a stretch. It’s to engage your muscles and explore the range you can control.

Before getting up, take a couple of minutes to check in with your body. Start small, breathe, and let comfort guide your effort.

💾 Save this for your next stiff morning.

Want to go faster? First, find out what you can control slowly.

Your body has its own history. An old injury, surgery, or differences in your joint structure can influence the range you have available—and how you train within it.

That’s one reason core training involves more than abdominal exercises. It’s also about learning to engage your muscles and control your trunk as you prepare for the activities you love.

🎙️ In today’s Making Muscle Memories episode, “You Train Your Core. What Are You Missing?” I share three essentials to help you approach core training with more intention.

Your back starts aching while you’re standing at the kitchen sink. Your first thought? “I need to stretch.”

But that feeling doesn’t automatically mean your back needs to be lengthened. Sometimes, the muscles doing the work need more support from other muscles.

That’s why muscle maintenance matters. Strategic resistance training gives you opportunities to identify weaknesses, build strength, and help your muscles share the workload.

Feeling better starts with paying attention—and asking more of your training than simply getting through a workout.

Where do you notice tension building during everyday tasks? Tell me below. 👇

Why wait until something hurts to give your muscles attention?

Some of my favorite words to hear from a client are: “I’m feeling pretty good.”

Because caring for your muscles deserves a place in your life even when you’re feeling good.

Your age, your injury history, and the demands of your daily life all matter. Muscle maintenance means making time for targeted strength training that respects those differences—and supports the things you want to keep doing.

What’s one thing you want to stay strong enough to keep doing? Tell me below. 💪

You walk every morning. Then your bone density scan leaves you wondering, “What am I missing?”

You haven’t failed. Walking has value—but it’s only part of the picture.

Your bones also benefit from the resistance your muscles work against. That’s why strength training, progressed thoughtfully for your body, deserves a place in your routine. 💪

Keep your walks. Add a plan to build strength.

Save this as a reminder to train for the strength you want to keep.

Client shenanigans! 😎

Give her a thigh band and suddenly she’s auditioning for Charlie’s Angels. 😂

We love moments like this at Fitness Integrated Science. Our trainers take your strength seriously, but there’s always room to laugh along the way.
