On this day in 2016, the world lost a wonderful person and an integral member of our team: Shelley A. Trimble. Shelley had a gift for connecting with young people and spent her 34-year-long career passionately advocating for children with disabilities and their families. She came to Louisville from Gainesville, Florida in the fall of 2012, along with Dr. Andrea Behrman, to establish one of the first pediatric neurorecovery programs of its kind in the country at Frazier Rehab Institute. She believed strongly in locomotor training as the best therapy she had ever witnessed for improving the lives of children with spinal cord injuries. She was a warm, funny person, and well-known among patients, friends, and colleagues for her sense of humor and imaginative "Shelley-isms"— puns, stories, silly songs, and turns of phrase that she seemed to invent on a daily basis.

The Shelley A. Trimble Memorial Fund was established in remembrance of her life and contributions as a pediatric physical therapist. This fund helps many families "fill the gaps” when insurance has not covered the full cost of therapy.

Today, in memory of Shelley, a beloved friend to Dr. Behrman and the Pediatric NeuroRecovery team, we are asking you to share this post on your page and request a donation of $34 in memory of Shelley's 34 year-long career. If you don't have $34, every dollar makes a difference. We need your help to ensure that all children with spinal cord injuries have full access to activity-based therapies to make their lives better. Thank you for sharing and for helping us celebrate Shelley’s contributions to our children’s recovery.

We have started using Loop+ in the clinic with our patients! Loop+ is a health tracker for wheelchair users that continuously monitors seated pressure and positioning in everyday life. The sensor pad sits under the cushion of the wheelchair and is connected to a mobile app. It shows the body's movement, pressure and position to help understand routine and risk. All day. Everyday.

Continuous monitoring gives parents an understanding of their child's seated activities. Where ever they are, who ever they are with.
