Motivation and desire are intrinsically linked—sometimes even synonymous. How does desire feel intrinsically as motivation?
For me, it feels like it pulses out from the heart. That pulsation stimulates movement, and when that movement is connected to pratibhā—awareness, consciousness—then it becomes a guided dance of allowing the next step to arise, along with the momentum to actually take it.
For me, it works best when I am clear about desire—focused and tuned into the feelings and experiences I wish to create. I notice that movement tends to halt when there are multiple, seemingly different desires swirling around. A practice of peeling away and getting to the root desire is something I am learning to use.
What is my root desire? To experience my highest self—yes—but can I be more specific without creating expectation? I am open to expansion, to becoming whatever life requires. My desire is to offer myself to life and to move with the flow, showing up to what arises.
What I am recognizing is that this does not always create movement. At other times, it does. Surrendering to this is challenging. I find myself isolating and feeling stagnant, but then it shifts and I have momentum again.
I also recognize that there are things that fog clarity. The clearer I feel, the more movement happens. So today, without force, I stand in commitment to myself to recognize what fogs clarity—to be conscious of my choices, and to create external conditions that support movement: healthy connection, joy, presence, and being “high on life.”
I ask—and will continue to ask—for desire to be clear, for what lives in my heart to be my guiding light, and for freedom from old habits and patterns, while developing new ways of being with myself and with others.
