How blessed we are to have Ellie Hester 🩵
I had no idea how much difference a doula could make, and for it to be someone I love so dearly was such a gift!
Nathaniel’s birth did not go the way I expected (or maybe how anyone expected). Isn’t that how birth often works anyway? But she was there in ways I didn’t know I would even need! Giving me emotional and physical support, supporting my husband, grounding me in the insanely hard moments, encouraging me when things took a turn, and giving me truth when things got scary. I will FOREVER be grateful for the beautiful experience I had with this birth, and it wouldn’t have been the same without her!

Sometimes the simplest things can make such a difference in labour 🩷

Water, a birth comb, movement, heat packs, breathing techniques, music, massage and, importantly, having the right support people around you.

Labour is so individual, and what feels good can change from one contraction to the next. Having a few different tools and techniques to draw on gives you options to find what feels right for you in that moment.

Labor support is not always dramatic.

Sometimes it’s a sip of water.

A hand on your back.
A reminder to unclench your jaw.
A new position.
A quiet room.
A calm explanation.

A partner who suddenly knows what to do.

Small things can change how supported you feel.

And when you’re in labor, you shouldn’t have to track every detail by yourself.

That’s part of what a doula is there for — noticing, supporting, adjusting, and helping the room feel a little steadier as labor unfolds.
