Big congratulations to Colin Bentley on his commitment to continue his academic and baseball career at Ferrum College!

The work nobody sees. The consistency. The commitment to getting better.

It all leads to opportunities like this.

Colin, we’re proud to be part of your journey and can’t wait to see what you accomplish at the next level.

But you know how we do things around here…

The commitment isn’t the finish line. It’s just a new starting point.

Congratulations, Colin!

We're not here to collect exhausted athletes. We're here to develop capable ones. Athletes who understand how to work. Who can handle feedback. Who move with purpose. Who build strength, speed, power, and resilience. Who trust their bodies after injury. And who show up to compete knowing they've prepared for the demands ahead.

The PRs matter. The performance numbers matter. The wins matter. But so does everything athletes become along the way. That's the work. That's the standard. That's Axis.

10/28/2026

Parents, your athlete isn't going to PR every week. And that's okay. Athletes grow. They adapt. They have good days, bad days, school stress, busy schedules, and sometimes approximately four hours of sleep because apparently phones are fascinating at midnight. Progress isn't always a straight line. We're looking for meaningful development over time—not a highlight reel every Tuesday.

Being able to do something once doesn't mean you're prepared to do it 100 times.

One successful jump. One pain-free throw. One hard sprint. That's a start. But sports demand repeated efforts, changing conditions, fatigue, and the ability to produce and absorb force over time. That's why building capacity matters.

We're not just asking, “Can you do it?” We're asking, “Can you handle what your sport actually demands?”

The Garage Crew has a few unofficial rules.

1. Show up ready to work.
2. Be coachable.
3. Encourage the athlete beside you.
4. Don't be afraid to fail.
5. Take your recovery seriously.
6. And please stop pretending you didn't hear us say “one more set.”

Around here, the standard isn't perfection. It's effort, consistency, accountability, and getting a little better every time you walk through the door.

“So…how many weeks until I can play again?”

Fair question. But here's a better one:

“What do I need to be able to do before I return?”

Return-to-sport decisions should consider more than time alone. Strength. Power. Movement capacity. Sport-specific demands. Confidence. Objective testing. Because checking a date off the calendar doesn't automatically mean your body is ready for competition.

We don't just count the weeks. We measure the progress.

Friendly reminder: your body doesn't get stronger just because you destroyed it in a workout. Training creates the stimulus. Recovery gives your body an opportunity to adapt.
Sleep. Nutrition. Appropriate training loads. Rest.

Not exactly the flashy stuff. But pretty important if you want to keep improving.

Train hard. Recover intentionally. Repeat.

Pitchers, quarterbacks, volleyball players, and overhead athletes—your shoulder would like a word. Throwing and hitting overhead aren't just shoulder movements. Your legs, hips, trunk, shoulder, and arm all contribute to producing and transferring force. So when we're evaluating performance or building a return-to-sport plan, we're looking at more than one joint. Because strengthening your shoulder is important. But preparing your entire body for the demands of your sport? That's the bigger picture.
