“Trauma is something that happens that is so emotionally intense that it exceeds our ability to make sense of it.”

We often think of trauma as something obvious or dramatic. But sometimes what shapes us most is an experience we simply didn’t have the capacity to understand or integrate at the time.

And if we never recognized it as trauma, we may not even realize how it influenced the way we see ourselves, our relationships, or the world around us.🌿

Understanding where our patterns came from can create space for something different.

“What’s the point of creating a new identity if you're just building another cage to put yourself inside?” 💫 This quote from my conversation with Penny Chiasson really stayed with me.

So much of the work is learning to recognize the identities, expectations, and stories we picked up along the way.

And then asking:

What still feels true to me?

What am I ready to release?

And who am I underneath who I learned to be?

What if the goal isn't to become a better version of yourself, but to finally feel safe being more fully yourself?

Living with chronic illness can leave you feeling like your options are out of your hands.

That’s why I loved this part of my conversation with Penny Chiasson.

She’s careful not to promise what the science can’t prove, but she also wants people to recognize that there may be things within their power that can improve their quality of life.

That distinction matters.✨

You can stay curious. You can ask questions. You can explore what might help. And you can become an advocate for your own experience without needing someone else to have all the answers first.

What if the way you see yourself today was shaped by things you learned before you even knew you were learning them?

That’s where my conversation with Penny Chiasson gets really interesting.

Penny spent 25 years in healthcare, including 15 years as a nurse anesthetist, before following a series of synchronicities into hypnosis and subconscious work.

In Episode 123, we’re talking about:

✨ How our identity is shaped from childhood
✨ The small moments that can become lifelong beliefs
✨ Why chaos can actually become familiar to the nervous system
✨ How our home environment influences our sense of safety
✨ Why changing your identity doesn’t mean creating another box to live inside
✨ And what it can look like to reconnect with who you are underneath who you learned to be

We also talk about Penny’s book, Breaking the Fibro Code, trusting your own intuition, and the power of becoming the advocate for your own life.🤍

This conversation reminded me that healing doesn’t always mean fixing something that’s broken, and sometimes it’s about creating enough safety, awareness, and space to finally see yourself clearly.

Sometimes the idea that changes your life starts out sounding completely ridiculous.

Rob's original plan was to meet 10,000 people for 10 minutes each.

It wasn't the right idea.

But it eventually led him to the version that was: one hour, one-on-one, with 10,000 different people.

And on November 11, 2015, he met person #1, and now he’s sharing with us his observations from over 7,700 conversations.

IT’S HAPPENING! ✨ The Create Space Retreat starts now.

So thankful to gather with so many amazing people for a few days of making space, inside and out. 🌿 It’s the same thing I talk about with our homes: when you clear room, something new has a chance to show up.

What can 7,700+ conversations teach you about being human?

A lot, as it turns out.

Rob Lawless has spent years intentionally meeting people from around the world, and what he’s discovered is both simple and profound: we have far more in common than we realize.

Our stories may look different, but we all have dreams, experiences, challenges, and something to learn from one another.

Sometimes, all it takes is being curious enough to start a conversation.

A great leader doesn’t need to have all the answers.

They need to create space for the people around them to bring their strengths, perspectives, and ideas to the table.đź’«

When everyone is allowed to think differently, you see more of the problem, uncover better possibilities, and create stronger solutions.

It’s happening THIS WEEK. 🤍 Create Space is almost here, and I’m so excited to welcome the women who are joining me in Madison for two days of conversation, connection, reflection, and a little room to simply breathe.

We’ll gather at The Edgewater overlooking Lake Mendota, spend time with some incredible women. ✨ Ashley Meyer, Lisa Morton, Gabi Turik, and Meg Zechel each bring such a unique perspective to the conversation, from creating spaces that support our well-being, to understanding ourselves and our patterns on a deeper level, to reconnecting with the body and nervous system through sound and presence. I can’t wait for you to experience what each of them brings to the weekend, and to have the chance to connect with them in person.

And there are still a few spaces available.

If you’ve been thinking about coming, this is your nudge. You don’t need to have anything figured out. Just come curious and ready to make a little space for yourself.

And to everyone who is already registered...

I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU.

Start saying hello! If you’re coming to Create Space, drop a 🤍 in the comments and introduce yourself. Tell us where you’re traveling from or what you’re most looking forward to.

Let’s start creating the space before we even arrive.

October 18 + 19 | Madison, Wisconsin
The Edgewater Hotel

There’s still room in the circle. Reserve your spot here: http://jenhellerlifestyle.com/madison-retreat

What if the people you haven’t met yet could change your life? 🌻 That’s the question I found myself thinking about after meeting Rob Lawless.

Rob set out on an extraordinary mission: to spend one hour, one-on-one, with 10,000 different people.

Since 2015, he’s met more than 7,700 people from 90+ countries, and along the way, he’s learned something pretty remarkable about what it means to be human.

✨In this episode of Homes That Heal, we talk about:

• Why Rob walked away from a predictable corporate career
• What thousands of conversations have taught him about people
• The power of authentic connection without an agenda
• Why we so often stay in situations that no longer serve us
• Learning to become comfortable with uncertainty
• How social media can leave us feeling more disconnected
• The common threads that connect all of us, no matter where we come from
• And why the next person you meet might introduce you to something you never knew you were missing

One of my favorite things about this conversation is the reminder that our lives are shaped by the people we allow ourselves to meet, know, and learn from.

We don’t have to have it all figured out.

We just have to be willing to open the door.
