🚨 TEXAS FUNDING UPDATE: CHILDREN’S AUTISM PROGRAM
Texas HHSC has released its Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) for the FY 2028–2029 biennium. In the LAR, the Children’s Autism Program (CAP) is currently allocated $0 for FY 2028 and FY 2029.
CAP provides autism services to eligible Texas children through community-based agencies and organizations, including providers of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based services.
If the program ultimately receives no funding for the 2028–2029 biennium, community agencies that rely on CAP funding — and the children and families they serve — could be impacted.
⚠️ Important: The LAR is part of the state budget process and does not represent the final appropriations approved by the Texas Legislature.
We encourage providers, families, professionals, and other stakeholders to:
• Review the HHSC FY 2028–2029 Legislative Appropriations Request.
• Stay informed as the state budget process moves forward.
• Contact your Texas legislators to share how the Children’s Autism Program affects your organization, community, or family and to communicate your perspective on funding for the program.
• Share this information with others who may be affected.
