Somatic skills help us build a different kind of relationship with the body — one rooted in curiosity instead of judgment.

Pendulation is a gentle practice of shifting attention between an area of discomfort and an area that feels more neutral, steady, or comfortable. Instead of staying locked onto distress, this helps the nervous system experience movement, flexibility, and a greater sense of internal balance.

Try it slowly:

Notice where your body feels tense or uncomfortable.
Find a place that feels neutral, steady, or okay.
Gently move your attention between the two.

You do not have to force relaxation. You are practicing awareness, regulation, and the ability to return to steadiness.

At Blue Lotus Wellness, we offer a variety of somatic and body-based approaches to healing, including Somatic Experiencing-informed work, EMDR, yoga therapy, mindfulness-based practices, breathwork, dance/movement therapy, and other integrative trauma-informed supports.

Have you ever known you were safe...but your body seemed convinced otherwise? 🧠💙

Your heart starts racing. Your chest feels tight. Your stomach turns. Your muscles tense. Maybe you feel dizzy, shaky, restless, or suddenly certain that something is wrong.

That's because anxiety isn't only something you think. It's something your body experiences.

Your nervous system is designed to protect you from danger, but sometimes that alarm system becomes overly sensitive. Even harmless sensations can begin to feel threatening, creating a feedback loop where physical symptoms increase anxiety and anxiety makes the physical symptoms even stronger.

In our newest blog, When Your Body Says "I'm Not Safe": Understanding the Physical Side of Anxiety, we explore why this happens, what interoception has to do with anxiety, how avoidance can unintentionally strengthen the alarm response, and how therapy can help the brain and body learn safety again.

We also share simple strategies you can try when anxiety shows up physically.

💙 Your body isn't betraying you. It may simply be trying a little too hard to protect you.

Read the full blog to learn how to understand the physical side of anxiety and begin responding differently.

Red light therapy, manifestation, sound baths, sleep trackers... everyone seems to have a wellness trend they swear by.
We’re putting some of the most popular trends to the test with a blind ranking. See where they land, then tell us which ranking you would change.

Of course, wellness is personal. What works for one person may not be the right fit for another, and popularity doesn’t always tell the whole story.

Change does not always happen by pushing harder.

Sometimes growth begins when we create the right conditions — more rest, more support, more honesty, more compassion, more space to breathe, and more permission to move at our own pace.

Today’s affirmation:
I don’t have to force change. I can create the conditions that allow it to happen.

Let this be a reminder that healing can be nurtured gently. You are allowed to grow with patience, care, and trust in the process.

Save this for the week ahead and share it with someone who may need this reminder.

Sometimes talking about an experience is only one part of healing.

Stress and trauma can live not only in our thoughts, but also in the body — through sensations, impulses, muscle tension, movement patterns, and nervous-system responses.

Somatic therapy helps bring the body into the healing process by gently increasing awareness of what your body is communicating. This can support nervous-system regulation, release stored tension, build resilience, and help you process experiences more fully.

Healing is not just about understanding what happened.
It is also about helping your body feel safer in the present.

Something as simple as changing the pace of your breath can become a powerful mind-body tool.

Research suggests that slow, controlled breathing can influence the autonomic nervous system and support changes in heart-rate variability — a marker connected to stress regulation, emotional balance, and the body’s ability to shift between activation and calm.

The next time you feel anxious, tense, or overwhelmed, try this:

Take a slow breath in.
Then make your exhale just a little longer than your inhale.

Try slowing your exhale for one minute and notice what changes.

Save this post as a reminder to use your breath as a tool for regulation.

When life feels difficult, it is natural to want relief as quickly as possible.

ACT, or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, offers a different question to ask in those moments:

Will this action move me toward the person I want to be — or away from it?

This is called the Choice Point.

It does not mean ignoring discomfort or pretending everything feels okay. It means learning how to choose meaningful action even when anxiety, sadness, fear, frustration, or uncertainty are still present.

You do not have to feel better before moving forward.
You can move forward with intention, one values-based choice at a time.

Save this therapy tip for the next time you feel stuck between short-term relief and what truly matters to you.

What if you understand why you feel anxious, but your body still feels anxious anyway? 🧠🌿

Talk therapy can be an incredibly effective part of mental health treatment, but we don’t experience emotions through thoughts alone. Stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma can also show up through our nervous system, physical sensations, energy, movement, and even our ability to express what we’re feeling.

That’s why mental health care can extend beyond simply sitting and talking.

In our newest blog, Beyond Talk Therapy: Alternative Ways to Manage Mental Health Symptoms, we explore how approaches such as movement, mindfulness, creative therapies, somatic work, breathwork, hypnotherapy, EMDR, and other experiential practices may complement traditional psychotherapy.

We also share a few simple things you can try at home to discover what helps your mind and body feel more regulated.

💙 Sometimes healing begins with talking. Sometimes it begins with moving, breathing, creating, noticing, or reconnecting with a body that has been carrying the story all along.

Read the full blog to explore more ways to support your mental health.
