One of the most fascinating discoveries in mind-body science is that emotions are not simply experiences of the mind. They are physiological experiences that involve the entire body. 🧠✨
Dr. Candace Pert, a pioneering neuroscientist and pharmacologist, helped deepen our understanding of this connection through her research on neuropeptides and their receptors.
Her work challenged the idea that the mind and body operate as separate systems.
And this is something I find incredibly fascinating in the work I do.
We can spend years analyzing our experiences, understanding our emotional patterns, and identifying the beliefs that have shaped our lives.
And while awareness and understanding are incredibly valuable, intellectual insight doesn’t always translate into a different physiological experience.
Our nervous system also learns through experience.
Through movement.
Through breath.
Through sound.
Through sensation.
Through experiences that allow the body to recognize safety in the present moment.
Sometimes we understand something intellectually long before our body begins responding differently.
This is why I believe integrating the mind and body is such an important part of emotional healing.
We cannot always think our way into a different physiological state. Sometimes we have to experience our way there.
The mind and body are in constant communication. Learning to work with both can create profound opportunities for healing, regulation, and lasting change.
And the more I study the brain, the nervous system, and human consciousness, the more fascinated I become by the extraordinary intelligence of the human body. 💜
Inspired by the pioneering research of Dr. Candace Pert, author of Molecules of Emotion.
