Oh, the beauty of homebirth. šŸ¤ Watching a mother trust her body, surrender to the rhythm of her labor, and find strength in the moments she was made for. Watching a midwife listen, observe, and follow the mother’s lead with such gentleness and wisdom. And then, in the peace of home, a sweet baby boy making his entrance into the world so calmly, surrounded by love.

But one of the sweetest moments of all was watching a big brother meet his baby brother for the very first time… he was meeting his best friend, right there in the place where he feels safest. No rushing, no bright lights, no separation. Just a family, together, welcoming their newest little love into the world. Happy birthday baby boy! It was an honor to support this family šŸ¤šŸ„¹

Because people who see normal physiological birth need a study to tell them this… maybe more hospital providers would benefit from seeing this!

STUDY SURPRISES ZERO BIRTH WORKERS šŸ˜…

Yet another study has found a clear association between upright positioning during the active second stage of labor and higher rates of physiological birth. So, basically what many of us already know šŸ˜‰

And I mean...gravity šŸ‘€

Researchers found:
✨ Women who had physiological births more frequently used all fours or a birth stool.
✨ Women who had instrumental births were more often in semi recumbent or lithotomy positions.
✨ For every 10% increase in time spent upright during active pushing, the likelihood of physiological birth increased by 26%.
✨ For every 10% increase in time spent supine, the likelihood of instrumental birth increased by 30%.

This adds to previous research that already showed this. And of course, loads of anecdotal experiences.

For doulas, this probably isn't surprising. Supporting movement, position changes, and working with gravity have long been part of labor support.

Of course, position is only one factor. There isn't one magic trick to ensure how a birth unfolds. However, there are lots of things which help facilitate an increased likelihood of a physiological birth.

I’ve been keeping a little something from this page… but with only two clients left before I welcome my own little one, I think it’s time to leave this here… Our own sweet girl is due at the beginning of the year, and I’ll be taking some extended time off to focus on being a mama… my first calling šŸ¤

In the meantime, I’m still welcoming inquiries and will happily connect expecting mamas with other wonderful local doulas as I step into this new season!!

I’ve also added virtual doula support services to my website! I know it’s a bit more niche, but I truly believe there’s a unique kind of support for every mama, and I’m so excited to offer another way to walk alongside families through this season of life.

Thank you for being here, for supporting this little business, and for allowing me to be part of such sacred moments in your lives. This work means more to me than words can say, and I’m so grateful for every family who has trusted me along the way.

With so much love,
Emily at Everrose Birth Co. šŸ¤

I’m still processing this beautiful, redemptive birth from the wee hours of last night. šŸ¤ There’s something incredible about witnessing a mother step into a birth experience that looks and feels so different from her first. As a doula, I often get a secondhand birth high, like the mothers themselves, but the endorphins from a birth like this? They’re almost tangible… After a traumatic experience with her first, this mama came into this knowing what she wanted, and we advocated for those things throughout the entire process.

In the end, she DID IT!! A beautiful, unmedicated birth, on her terms, with strength and determination that carried her through every moment. I genuinely don’t think this birth could have gone better. Not because everything has to go perfectly for a birth to be beautiful, but because she was heard, supported, and empowered to experience birth in a way that felt right for HER!

Birth can be hard. Birth can be unpredictable. And while we can never promise a particular outcome, we can create a for a mother to feel safe, supported, heard, and confident in her choices. Shoutout to the team at Gettysburg Hospital for always being incredible and going above & beyond.

Last night was a beautiful reminder of why I do this work. The honor of standing beside a woman as she brings her baby into the world is something I will never take for granted. 😭

The sweetest little girl was born today šŸ¤ this mom & dad were the picture of strong faith, navigating all the challenges that come at the end of pregnancy. I am SO proud of this mama! Happy birthday baby girl!

Oh the things I could say about this birth… incredible strength, full surrender, and perseverance through all the unknown. This was a HARD and FAST labor, which was completely unexpected. After 2 failed epidurals, mama rocked this one unmedicated & we got through it together, one contraction at a time. What a beautiful prize she received at the end of it all šŸ¤ Happy birthday (a day late) sweet baby girl!

An August babe decided to wait until September to make her debut… and then made mama work a bit harder on top of that too. But we are so thankful she is here! Happy birthday baby girl! šŸ’–
