Yet the path can be lonely, discouraging, filled with bouts of self doubt and self motivation. It can be exhausting, I keep my spirits up by watching my new friends and listening to their seeet sounds.

Audre Lorde penned this iconic quote in a time where the oppressed had every excuse not to look inward, to stay stuck in rapture of the outside world. How they were perceived was survival, not how they perceived themselves. When we care for ourselves, we reaffirm our importance, our values, our Spirit. Take a step back from the outside world, prioritize your self care in a society that often tells you not to.

The path to healing isn’t linear, some would argue that once you start it, it never really stops. I believe we will continue to go through phases of life where you need to heal, but I don’t think you need to be in a constant state of recovery to be free. Freedom in adversity is true freedom, but will you allow yourself to access it?

We’ve lost so much as a collective. We forget sometimes to put down our weapons down in the face of grief, it’s not something to fight or counteract but something to simply walk through. Gratitude allows us to come out of the other side and build from the rubble that lose left behind. Allow grief to transform you, and in gratitude; you transform your experience.

We feel the need to correct or control how we deal with pain, but this can stifle you in the long run. Pain is a part of the story of the person we're becoming, without pain there is no story. There is inherent beauty in the attempt to move through this pain, its a story as old as humanity itself. Write your own ending.

One of my favorite focus points in my coaching is kindness, both within ourselves and others. Often the kindest thing you can do for yourself is forgive. Forgiveness is freedom, allow yourself to experience it.

Self-doubt didn’t bring you the wonderful things in your life, it only made the path to those things longer. Truth telling is one of the most sacred acts we can do for ourselves and those around us. Truth telling works with positivity to w**d out who and what no longer serves you. Tag a person or share a place you can always share hard truths.

Joy is so much quieter than happy made it out to be. What does joy look like for you? Is it the first bite of a meal you made or a conversation with your grandmother? I always tell my client not to chase happiness, a destination to which there is no road, but joy. Too often do we immobilize ourselves and our goals for fear of disappointment. Disappointment from a third party doesn’t instill anything new, but confirms negative thoughts that we have held onto since childhood. Avoid self actualizing this disappointment with little affirmations of what you can do.
