Helpful ideas for first-time brisk walkers...

Just 30 minutes a day of brisk walking can increase your cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness, reduce your risk of heart disease, increase your muscle strength and endurance, and improve your spinal health.

Here are some tips and tricks for first time brisk walkers:

* Pick a time in the day and schedule it in, like you would an appointment, that way it’s a priority and not an option.
* Make sure the time works best for you, whether it’s in the morning before the day starts, or after work to get moving after a long day. Walking works around any schedule.

* Walking in your lunch break is a great way to have a midday unwind and have some time to yourself.
* Grab a walking buddy! Lock in a time to walk and talk so you can catch up while working out.

* Set goals! Start with 10,000 steps a day and when you start to hit those with ease move to 15,000 and so on.
* Make sure you stay hydrated.

Extra challenge: Test yourself by ignoring your phone for the duration of the walk. That way you can practice good posture, as well as avoid the dreaded ‘text neck’ pain caused from looking down, and open your eyes to the world around you.

About Dr. Kevin Wood...

Dr. Kevin Wood is nationally sought out and is regarded by many as the leading chiropractor for full body chiropractic care and extremity adjustments.

Dr. Kevin grew up in Roswell, Georgia where he enjoyed time with family and friends in his younger years. He knew he wanted to help people and began his studies with a focus to be a heart surgeon. He quickly realized that his true desire was to teach people how to be healthy and hopefully avoid unneeded surgeries later in life.

He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in microbiology, then continued his studies at Life Chiropractic University and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1993 with honors. Adding additional certifications in Spinal Trauma and in Extremity Manipulation, Dr. Kevin is proficient in full spine, extremity adjustments, and orthotic fitting. He taught extremity placement and radiology classes at Life University for many years.

Dr. Kevin's clinical interests include working with athletic injuries, building corrective orthotics, optimizing health and well being, and improving overall performance.

When he's not working on patients he enjoys hiking, martial arts, body building - and spending time with his wife Colleen and two sons, Conner and Clifford.

How to improve your posture at work...

Whether you work on a computer from home or in an office here are some simple tips to help improve your posture:

Get the Ergonomics Right
Ensuring the equipment you use is ergonomically sound can be great in supporting your spinal health. For instance if you work off a laptop, use a separate mouse and keyboard so you can elevate the screen to your eye level with the help of a few props.

Practice Good Posture
A supportive and ergonomic chair is key in helping your posture and spinal health while working. Sit on the chair with your feet either flat on the floor or supported by a footrest. Arms should be relaxed by your side (wrist straight when using your mouse and elbows at 90-110 degrees when typing), with your posture relaxed and tall.

Try a Standing Desk
If there is an opportunity to be at a standing desk, even better, as this will be helpful for most people. If standing, maintain an upright relaxed posture. To help prevent tilting the hip to one side, place a footrest underneath the desk and alternate each foot resting on it.

Walking Breaks
Sitting for long periods of time can be harmful to your spinal health, so make a conscience effort to take breaks by scheduling in mini breaks every 30 minutes to keep your body moving throughout the day. During lunch breaks or even after work is also a great time to head out for a walk to get some fresh air and stretch your legs. Walking is also beneficial for your spinal health and overall wellbeing.

Our Story

We moved to 3417 Canton Road in Marietta in January 2018 after practicing on Cobb Parkway for over 20 years. We finally found the perfect building and location for our practice! We offer chiropractic care for the whole family, starting with the newborn to the mature senior adult. Dr. Kevin Wood specializes in spinal trauma, extremity adjusting (sports injuries) and orthotic fitting. Dr. Colleen Wood specializes in pregnancy care, newborns and children. Dr. David Williams joined our practice in November of 2018 as another chiropractor with over 20 years of experience. He specializes in functional medicine. We also have two massage therapists on staff. Greg Eisenberg specializes in sports and deep tissue massage and Deirdre Foley specializes in cranial sacral therapy and pregnancy massage. If you are looking for a family oriented practice, we have what you need. We hope to see you soon!
