IN THIS WEEK’S MIDLIFE EDIT 💛

A gray wig. A Hollywood set. And a reality check on how we treat women as they age.

In a recent conversation with , our co-founder Constance Zimmer opened up about ageism in Hollywood and what she experienced playing Ann Freeman in Love Story.

When she stepped onto set wearing a gray wig, something shifted. Suddenly, she felt invisible.

And that’s the problem. Women over 50 aren’t fading out. They’re being written out.

But the story doesn’t end there.

Through The Midlife Collective, Constance is helping change the narrative, creating space for women’s stories, experiences and voices to be seen and heard.

And we’re not alone in this work. Our friends at Geena Davis Institute are doing important work using research and data to challenge gender stereotypes, expose inequalities in on-screen representation and advocate for more opportunities for women and girls in media.

Because representation matters. On screen, behind the camera and everywhere decisions are made.

Thank you to for shining a light on this important conversation.

💛 We want to hear from you. Have you ever felt overlooked or written off because of your age?

Introducing The Midlife Community Calendar! ✨

Good conversations. Great women. Places worth showing up for.

Yes, we know it’s already mid October! But we’ve had a pretty BIG week with the announcement of our collaboration with CVS Health, so we’re giving ourselves a little grace. 💛 CVS Health

We’re excited to launch a new monthly feature celebrating our midlife community! The women, gatherings, causes, and experiences that bring us together.

Each month, we’ll share a curated look at where The Midlife Collective will be showing up, alongside events and experiences hosted by women and organizations in our wider community that we think you’ll love.

First up: October! 🍂

From Dressing Room Confessions in Boston and Laura Benanti’s Nobody Cares to shopping for a cause at Shoes for a Cure in NYC and an evening of signature style and giving back, this month’s calendar is all about connection, community, and showing up for one another.

Because the best part of midlife? Finding your people, supporting each other, and discovering new reasons to get together.

Swipe through for all the details. ➡️

💛 Follow The Midlife Collective for our monthly Community Calendar and to see where we’ll be next.

An open letter to menopause… 💌

Happy World Menopause Day.

Menopause can be messy, exhausting and, honestly, a lot.

Every woman’s experience is different, and every symptom deserves to be taken seriously.

But midlife can also bring something unexpected: freedom.

Less people-pleasing. More saying no. More taking up space.

👇 Finish the letter in the comments:

“Dear Menopause…”

Our midlife stories are making headlines. And helping shape what comes next. ❤️

Thank you TheWrap for covering our collaboration with CVS Health, bringing research and storytelling together to better understand women’s lives in midlife.

Our health. Our relationships. The people we care for. The work we do. Who we’re becoming and what we want for ourselves.

The findings will help inform HER SECOND ACT, our documentary in development. Because the story about women and aging should reflect the women actually living it.

For this week’s Midlife Edit ✍️ , we went back to the archives. This piece by Julia Musto in The Independent was published back in March, but the lives it describes will feel familiar to so many women today.

A parent who needs more help. Children who still need you. A job to keep showing up for. And somewhere in between, your own life, health and needs.

Tara Hastings’ story of caring for her father while working full time and raising three kids puts words to what often goes unseen. The appointments. The worry. The decisions. The exhaustion you don’t always admit because you love the people you’re caring for.

You can love them deeply and still need a break. You can be the person everyone relies on and need someone to show up for you.

That’s why this story resonated with us. Caregivers deserve support long before they reach a breaking point. And these conversations deserve space long after an article leaves the headlines.

What’s one thing you wish people understood about what you’re carrying right now? Tell us below. 💬

Send this to someone who needs to feel seen, or someone you want to start the conversation with. You don’t have to wait for a crisis to talk about care. ❤️

Apparently, figuring out what we want next is something we’re meant to squeeze in between everyone else’s appointments.

We’re watching our parents get older. Learning when to let our kids go and when to pick up the phone. Checking in on friends facing hard news. Trying to do our jobs, get some sleep and understand our own changing bodies.

And somewhere in there, we have questions about our own lives.

You can love your people and need a break from being needed. You can be good at handling things and wish someone else would take a turn.

If it feels like everything is happening at once, you’re not alone. A lot of us are right there with you.

What are you juggling at the moment? You don’t have to wrap it up with “but I’m fine.” 💛

Some birthdays deserve a whole dance floor.

Today, our co-founder, friend and queen Constance Zimmer turns 56. ❤️

On Saturday, October 17, we’re joining her at Earlybirds Club, and we want our MLC community there with us.

Because this is part of midlife, too. Making time for your friends. Finding new ones. Singing every word to a song you haven’t heard in years. Showing up for each other when there’s something wonderful to celebrate.

Haven’t met Earlybirds Club yet? It’s a dance party for women and gender-expansive folks, with ’80s, ’90s and 2000s favorites, room to let loose, and a very civilized 10 p.m. finish.

🪩 Saturday, October 17 | 6–10 p.m.
📍 Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn
🎟️ Ages 21+

Earlybirds donates 10% of ticket proceeds to the Susie Lee Legacy Fund. This quarter’s focus includes women’s health, cancer support, grief and caregiving.

Bring your friends or come on your own. We’d love to celebrate with you.

Get your tickets through the link in The Midlife Collective or Earlybirds Club’s bio and meet us on the dance floor. ❤️

And leave our birthday queen some love below. 👑
