I’m turning 42 in January. My biological age test came back at 26.8.
But when I think about how I care for myself, the gym and the food are only part of it.
I’ve spent over a decade doing my own trauma healing, somatic work, and inner child work. Getting honest about what hurts. Allowing myself to feel uncomfortable emotions. Looking at the patterns I kept repeating and doing the work to change them.
Here’s what my routine looks like:
• I lift weights and work out consistently.
• I eat mostly minimally processed food. Protein, carbs like rice and oats, and very little sugar. I don’t eat dairy or gluten.
• I barely drink alcohol. I’ve had about 4 glasses total this year.
• I prioritize at least seven hours of sleep.
• I practice intermittent fasting. It works for me, though everyone’s needs are different.
• I pay attention to the ingredients in my beauty, personal care, and cleaning products.
• I meditate regularly and make time to check in with myself.
• I pray to God every day. My faith matters deeply to me, and I keep making room for that connection.
• I do work I love and follow what’s in my heart. I care about how my life feels while I’m living it.
I can’t tell you which of these habits contributed to that number. A biological age test is an estimate, and it doesn’t tell the whole story.
These are the things I actually do. Consistently. Over years.
And the emotional work belongs on that list just as much as the workouts.
If you’re someone who gives to everyone else but struggles to receive care, I want you to think about this:
How often does your own care get pushed to tomorrow?
Your sleep. Your health. The appointment you keep putting off. The feelings you haven’t made room for.
You deserve your own time and attention, too.
