Good day everyone!!
Today (as most days!) was another big eye opener. I had another momma who was frightened half to death that her baby may have MAJOR terrible anomalies. A very minor & common abnormality we see that resolves over 50% of the time on its own was caught at her 20wk anatomy survey of her baby. When we see this in the home birth/birth center world, we give informed advice & face to face instruction. We give many OPTIONS letting the family know of both the good & the bad possible outcomes. The hospitals? Not so much.
You may ask yourself, what does this create? SO MUCH FEAR & ANXIETY. When they come to me for follow up they are literally shaking & crying. Not only have they been treated like they have no options but they often were treated like they weren’t a person caring for an unborn child. It breaks my heart EVERY SINGLE TIME.
How do hospitals keep getting away with treating people this way? Then when I need more information because the hospital report is incomplete they treat me like some schmuck off the street. No, I’m on your side, trying to provide quality patient care just like you.
Will this EVER get better?!
