Apparently some tattoo artists are turning away paying clients simply because they used AI to help visualize their tattoo idea.
If that’s happened to you, you’re welcome to bring that idea to me.
AI doesn’t understand skin.
AI doesn’t understand how tattoos age.
AI doesn’t understand placement, flow, longevity, or how much detail can realistically fit into a tattoo.
And that’s completely fine.
AI doesn’t need to understand tattooing. Your tattoo artist does.
That’s part of my job as a professional.
Bring me your idea. If there’s too much detail, I’ll simplify it. If something needs to be larger, moved, changed, or removed so it heals and ages properly, I’ll explain why. Then we’ll work together to turn the concept into something that actually works as a tattoo.
Tattoo artists have spent decades working from Pinterest boards, Google images, screenshots, other tattoos, rough sketches, magazine clippings, and collections of completely unrelated reference photos.
AI is simply another way for a client to communicate what they’re seeing in their head.
It doesn’t replace the tattoo artist. It gives us a starting point.
I’m not interested in making someone feel embarrassed or stupid because of how they came up with their reference. I’m interested in understanding what they want and using my experience to turn that idea into a tattoo that works on the body and will hold up over time.
So if you’ve created an AI image that finally captures the idea you’ve been trying to explain, bring it in.
It doesn’t have to be tattoo-ready.
That’s my job
