Before the horseshoe became a symbol of luck, there was the iron.
In old folk traditions, iron was believed to offer protection. A horseshoe brought that belief right to the front door: something once made to protect a horse was hung above an entrance to protect the home and welcome good fortune.
But which way should it face? 🧲
Points up, and some say it holds the luck in like a little cup. Points down, and others say it pours good luck over everyone who walks through the door.
I love that both ways have a story.
How would you hang yours—up or down?
