If I was in the business of begging, this is how I would beg you all to eat more vegetables. 😂With diabetes, heart disease (high blood-pressure and strokes), chronic kidney disease, and other chronic illness cases increasing...... you can decrease your chances of suffering from one of those illnesses by adding more vegetables in your daily intake. And it is not too late for those who may already have one or multiple chronic illnesses. The recommended goal for most people are 4 to 5 servings or 2-3 cups of fruits and vegetables. We'll dive into fruit later.😏What type of vegetables you may ask? Stay tuned, I got you!Reference:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4644575/ https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7101a1.htm With love,Quena the Dietitian#BMI #bodymassindex #health #healtheducation #RD #RDN #LDN #registereddietitian #wellness #eatyourvegetables #dietaryguidelines #publichealthnutrition
What is BMI? BMI means “body mass index”. It is a tool used by healthcare professionals to place people in categories by comparing their weight to height. These different weight classes are then used to guess the likelihood of being/becoming ill. Keyword TOOL to GUESS likelihood of illness. BMIs have acceptions to the rule. Being in the “overweight/obese 1 class” doesn’t automatically make you unhealthy, but statistically increase your risk from suffering certain illnesses. Although I disagree with the statement “you can be healthy at any size”, I do believe that healthy is subjective. Healthy does not present the same physically on everyone. There are better ways to assess your quality of health than using a BMI such as comparing your hip to waist measurements, keeping vitals within normal range, and checking to see if your labs are within normal range. Do not limit yourself to a tool meant to sort out people at higher risk of illness from large crowds. Get personalized care, do not use a room thermostat on the wall to take your body temperature. That is not what it was created for.
