๐Ÿ’› To the new nurse trying everything to be a good nurse.

Some days, you may question yourself. You may wonder if you missed something, if youโ€™re doing enough, or if everyone else seems more confident than you.

That feeling has a name: imposter syndrome. But feeling unsure doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re incapable.

Clinical confidence is built one shift, one patient, one assessment, and one decision at a time.

Remember:
You are observant.
You are thorough.
You are learning.
And you are developing the skills to recognize subtle changes and advocate for your patients.

Trust what youโ€™ve learned. Ask questions when you need to. Speak up when something doesnโ€™t feel right. And give yourself permission to grow.

You donโ€™t have to be perfect to be a confident nurse. You just have to keep showing up and learning.๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’›

Youโ€™ve got this.

Whatโ€™s one thing youโ€™re learning to trust yourself more in as a new nurse?

DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educator ๐ŸŒผ

Iโ€™m honored and deeply humbled to share that I received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators. This recognition means so much because it reflects the heart of the nurses Iโ€™ve had the privilege to teach, mentor, and support.

Every moment spent pouring into new nurses is part of the calling God placed on my life, and Iโ€™m grateful for the opportunity to serve. Geniune support matters.

Thank you my beautiful Liza for the nomination, every aspiring nurse, colleague, and leader who has walked alongside me. Cheers to growth & impact!๐Ÿ’›

Warmly,
Shenell

Clinical Confidence Wednesday ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฉบ

New nurse or nursing student, building clinical confidence starts with learning how to recognize when a patientโ€™s condition may be changing.

One helpful tool many healthcare teams use is the ๐— ๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ helps nurses identify early signs of patient deterioration by looking at key clinical indicators such as:
โ€ข Respiratory rate
โ€ข Heart rate
โ€ข Blood pressure
โ€ข Temperature
โ€ข Level of consciousness
โ€ข Urine output,

depending on facility policy.

Why is MEWS important?
Because small changes can be early warning signs. When you know what to watch for, you can communicate concerns sooner, escalate care appropriately, and help keep your patients safer. It supports timely decision-making, stronger nurse-provider communication, and better patient outcomes.

Remember: using a tool like MEWS is not about replacing your nursing judgment, it helps strengthen it. Your assessment skills, critical thinking, and willingness to speak up matter. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝโœจ

To my new nurse or student reading this:

๐Ÿ’ญWhat is one assessment skill youโ€™re working on becoming more confident in this week? You are learning, growing, and becoming more prepared every day. Keep going โ€” your patients need the nurse you are becoming.

๐Ÿ’› Join the ๐—”๐—น๐—น ๐—ข๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ก๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† for more encouragement, practical nursing resources, and support as you grow in confidence and purpose.
