"My archeological research does not confirm the hypothetical existence of the primordial parents and their division into the Great Father and great Mother figures or the further division of the Great Mother figure into a Good and a Terrible Mother. There is no traces of a father figure in any of the Paleolithic periods. The life-creating power seems to have been of the Great Goddess alone. A complete division into a ‘good’ and a ‘terrible’ Mother never occurred: the Life Giver and the Death Wielder are one deity."

An ancient feminine intelligence, finding new form through the hands of the Creatrix… Influenced by the nourishment of the maternal Cancer Moon… Risen from the shadowy depths of illness, my creative will stirs once more beneath the veil of Samhain, guided by the timeless sovereignty of ancient Cretan terracotta priestesses.

In this piece, the textured echo of archaic clay transforms into a resurrected portal—where subterranean moonlight, ancient womb-memories, and the resilient spark of the Feminine alchemize into form. Through the veil of a digital alchemy, Her sovereign spirit reclaims the canvas, holding the map of the stars within Her belly and breathing new life into the eternal wellspring of creation.

Art: CREATRIX Collage by yours truly of a terracotta goddess figurine dated ca 700-600 BC, Archaic period, found on the island of Crete. She is now housed in the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. I wanted to create a collage to embody that beautiful moment when the creative impulse returned— when my body began to mend and the artist in me found my way back to the Cosmic Womb.

I find myself captivated by the Mycenaean aesthetic, the inherent sovereignty of these female forms, and the enduring creative intelligence of women whose worlds were shaped by patriarchal power. Through the workshop I am offering today, we’ll be exploring the womb as both origin and transformation, a living portal between spirit and matter, creation and regeneration.

“The Goddesses of patriarchal mythology dimly reflect the power of women and Goddesses in prepatriarchal societies. They are the ones who gave rise to the scholarly myth that Goddesses are the creations of men and that their images everywhere support male power. But more ancient images of the Goddesses and echoes of their power in later myths and customs challenge the widely held belief that ‘in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.’ They provide alternatives to the conventional view that men have always been dominant in religion and society. Knowledge is power. As we learn about ancient Goddess religions and cultures, we begin to understand that we do not have to live as we do today: in cultures that worship one male God, where the domination and the control of women, the earth, and other people are taken for granted, and warfare is perpetual.”

"People often think of the Goddess as a fertility deity only. Not at all—she's the muse. She's the inspirer of poetry. She's the inspirer of the spirit. So, she has three functions: one, to give us life; two, to be the one who receives us in death; and three, to inspire our spiritual, poetic realization"
