10 years of coaching and my philosophy has changed more times than I count.

Every step of my coaching journey showed me something that the last one missed.

Sometimes I was too zoomed in. Sometimes I was too zoomed out.

But one thing that I’m confident of is this: the workout determines the stimulus, but your lifestyle determines the adaptation.

Most people are obsessed with finding a better workout. A better exercise selection. A better rep scheme. A better load split. A better contraction type…

Deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole they go.

But is that the most important thing? Is that where the highest return on your time is? Do you expect the maximum amount of value to be delivered from those changes?

Is the stimulus more important than the environment?

I just want to do dope s**t & create things with my friends.

A few years ago I had an idea for a cognitive supplement. It was a solution to a problem I had and I loved it. It was perfect.

Then I had an idea that I could create a business out of it. I could use it to create a secondary source of revenue and make a bunch of $$ and blah blah blah.

Somewhere along the way I lost my sense of purpose. I stopped creating for the reasons that brought me joy and started creating to extract money out of a system.

A polluted mission like this is hard to complete. And I found out the hard way.

Thankfully those years taught me a lot of lessons. And thanks to working with Hi, I’m Dr Steve! I learned that I DO love to create. And that it’s ok if I don’t know where those creations will go or how they will be used.

Maybe there’s a business opportunity, maybe not. If there is I hold the awareness to take advantage of it, but I’m not forcing square pegs into round holes.

So anyways, here’s a CAD file my friend helped me create for an idea I had. Maybe it becomes something super useful and awesome. Maybe not.

But problem solving and creating fills a big part of me that brings me joy. So I’ll continue to do it.

Whatever those things are for you, take my word that you should continue to do them. And if you’re not sure what that is, than reach out to Dr Steve. If he helps you even half as much as he helped me you’ll be in great shape

An important PSA for everyone waiting for the right moment

I don’t post my clients for a few reasons…

1) I’m busy coaching. I don’t even keep my phone on the training floor.
2) Privacy
3) Aesthetic fitness videos are stupid. I care about whether or not we’re making progress towards their goals, not whether the lighting is good
4) the more time I spend trying to make “cool” videos, the less time I’m spending doing numbers 1, 2, and 3

With that said every week we make some incredible progress towards their goals. That’s what I do.

My rehab split up into generally this structure: warm up, isometrics, plyo’s, heavy strength, accessories

Today I was running into some load issues from a 22mile ride + pilates yesterday so I went into this session with the idea of giving my hamstrings a break.

I wanted to load my quad and hit some SL plyo’s and this was how it went

Good news: knee felt great! Warmed up and then jogged 100yds with ~1m rest in between

Bad news: strained my soleus on the 5th rep 😅

It was on my uninvolved side which could mean a few things. Either
A) I have significant weight distribution compensation
B) I under-worked my uninvolved leg during rehab relative to my involved leg
C) while Ive trained everything locally, the global integration of running was probably too much. I kind of knew this and needed to see at what point of failure it would come. Evidently that’s the 5th rep of 100yd jogs 😂

I think it’s a result of all 3, but at least now I have a firm understanding of my capabilities and where to work from on dynamic & higher velocity movements

Still another W in my book and will continue to progress

First ride in the streets in over a year. A little over 3 months since knee surgery.

As I rode down Miami Beach watching the sunrise come up over the water I couldn’t help but be extremely grateful. Grateful for the challenge, for the opportunity to overcome it, for all the people by my side.

If you’ve ever had an injury take away an activity you love then you know how this moment felt.

Still a few more steps to go until I’m confident getting back on the golf course, but today is going to be a celebration of a huge milestone!
