Race weekend recap! 🏅 Tamarindo beach Marathon, the once-a-year running extravaganza has come and went - and I’m overall just grateful to have been able to participate.
Why you may ask? Well besides the fact that this race fell on the last weekend of our 22day immersive Hari OM Yoga & Wellness yoga & Ayurveda teacher training (meaning very intense work schedule for me), I also had a freak accident a few weeks prior. Those who know me have heard my cries & complaints about this over the last few weeks (or even seen some socials posts tho I have been mainly quiet and also wasn’t able to type much).
Anyways, one night I cut myself pretty badly with a brand new chefs knife (too sharp, too heavy, don’t recommend, especially if clumsy). It all happened quickly, but basically I cut my hand cooking and dropped the knife on my food as well as a reaction. I was convinced I cut my tendons on the top of my foot, it was quite painful. I got a couple of stitches on my food and one on the hand, and although looking back at the pics now, it doesn’t look that bad, it was quite painful, a bit scary, just overall inconvenient. I couldn’t properly use my hand for a couple of weeks, taking out the super tight stitches was almost worse than getting them, and I still don’t have full sensation in my finger assuming my nerves got cut (maybe more by the stitch than the knife). I couldn’t walk for about a week, dragging my foot, but then I started recovering quickly and went back to my walks (no running). One day I just overextended the top of my foot too much on the uneven trails around our property that I mainly walk on, and re-injured my foot almost worse than before. Back to lots of healing with compression, icing, red light therapy, all kinds of balms. Basically took one 2 mile walk before the race, felt ok.
I downgraded from the half marathon or 21k, which I ran last year, to a 10k. Showed up at the start line with a plan to take it easy mainly walk. I warmed up well, taped up, wore compression, and felt very well so I ran most of the race at a slow pace and am now super happy to have just made it.
It was a lesson in patience, which for me as a Vedic astrologer makes sense be
