being in italy again has made me reflect so much on the way we live in the u.s.
i feel like we’ve normalized a culture of constant productivity, pressure + burnout.
always rushing. always chasing the next goal. always trying to become healthier, wealthier, more successful, more productive.
and somehow, even when we’re doing everything “right,” so many of us still feel exhausted + dissatisfied.
what i’ve been loving about italy is observing a different relationship with time.
long meals. afternoon pauses. coffee without rushing. people enjoying conversations, walking, connecting + simply experiencing life.
of course, europe isn’t perfect, and i’m seeing it through the eyes of someone on vacation. but it makes me question so much of what we’ve accepted as normal.
especially how we’ve turned almost everything into something to optimize. even our health, our hobbies + our free time.
i love ambition. i love growth. i love having big dreams.
but what’s the point of building a beautiful life if we’re too busy to actually enjoy it?
from a psychological perspective, it’s fascinating how much our environment shapes what we believe a successful life should look like.
and maybe we need to start questioning those beliefs a little more.
because slowing down isn’t laziness. pleasure isn’t something we need to earn. and our worth was never supposed to be measured by how much we accomplish.
the real luxury might not be having more. it might be having the freedom, time + presence to actually enjoy what we already have.
a little reminder to myself to choose more living, not just more achieving. ♡
do you feel like we’ve forgotten how to slow down?
