Technique Tuesday: USB Clean to a Front Load
Watch my hands before I perform each clean. Do you see how they pull out? This creates tension through the core, bracing the spine before the explosive nature of this move. After the high pull the USB feels like it is floating. I flip it and catch it in a front load. Every catch involves a squeeze of the USB as well as fully extended hips and knees...this is a plank.

Thursday thoughts....Kettlebell Swings are great for stress relief! I did this for 10 mins. 30sec on/30 sec off. Approximately 20 swings per set.

I did this 30:30, too! I love RFE split squat in the TRX, but this could be done with the back foot on a step or bench, using a glider, or keep both feet planted in a stationary split squat.

Today was a hot and sweaty one! This FLOW had a forward step into a sprinter stance overhead press, which challenged the brain a little bit. I love throwing them these little curve balls and watching them hit it out of the park! The surprise of the day, though…the sled march😳…I didn’t predict that to be as difficult as it was for the Heritage crew.

I love having a pull up bar! In the space we use, this particular one was the best option. It fits perfectly! But, no Neutral Grip option😕. Neutral grip is by far my favorite(and my shoulders favorite) grip. I finally got my hands on these cool attachments that allow me to do Neutral Grip! I love that they allow the shoulder to go through its natural path of internal and external rotation! This was my first workout using them, and I look forward to repeating this one for the next month🙌!

Soon my kids will be done with school and I will be able to run our outside class at Heritage Park! We will meet at the soccer field at 7am every Tuesday and Thursday(weather permitting). I will be coaching you through FLOWS and Complexes that will incorporate most, if not all, of our basic movement patterns. Each person will only need one Ultimate Sandbag to perform the movements. This way there will be no need to share equipment. I will provide sandbags but you are welcome to bring your own, if you have one. I do hope to use the ARES sled. It is a wonderful tool that we don’t get to utilize while training in my basement. I may program them into the workout or as a finisher. Since I only have 3 of them, they will need to be shared. Should this make anyone uncomfortable, I will make sure to have an alternative. I will send out my usual confirmation text the day before a class. So, if you are interested in joining us on the turf, let me know and I will include you in the group text.

This is going to be a short summer and I will be away two out of the 9-10 weeks. Let’s hope for amazing weather so we can get outside as much as possible!

Janet...this is what I was telling Bob, this morning!!!

There are days when you train like a demon possessed. And there are days when the training session IS a demon possessed.

Yesterday was one of those days for me.

My goal was to get ten reps of double kettlebell clean and press with the 32kgs in as few sets as possible.

Last week I got 3 sets of 2, and 4 singles.

Yesterday I got ONE set of 2, 6 singles and then missed.

I’d been on a roll lately so a bad session is expected eventually. I think in any ten training sessions there are usually 2 superhero sessions, 3 solid sessions, 3 ok sessions and 2 sessions that give YOU a beatdown.

Not every training session can look like a Rocky movie training montage. But the actual difference in results might just come from the less-than-spectacular workouts - the "punch the clock" workouts.

Yesterday I was on the struggle bus for sure. It means there’s a superhero session coming though…

This is a great explanation of the visual representation of fat loss that I was recently reminded of by (And attributed originally to a "Bob White")⁣

=⁣
You buy 2 rolls of paper towels, each with 112 paper towels on it. You put one aside and keep it for future reference (your “before” picture). The other represents you (I’ll call your paper towel “Ed”). ⁣

The core represents lean Ed. The towels represent the fat that's covering lean Ed⁣

Now, let’s say that Ed wants to lose 28lbs of fat, so (112/28) each sheet represents a 1/4lb of far⁣

And let's assume that Ed loses his fat equally each day of the program. Each day during the 1st week, you tear a sheet off Ed, representing the fat he's lost that day. Next, you put Ed next to the full roll (“Big Ed”) for comparison⁣

No difference! Even after a week! ⁣

"This doesn't work for me! This program sucks! "⁣

But you continue following your program. ⁣
At the end of weeks 2 and 3, you continue to compare Ed to Big Ed, and still notice very little difference. But Ed is determined! He continues working hard! ⁣

Months go by, the sheets peeling off every day, before Ed gets up the courage to stand next to Big Ed again⁣

Now there’s a big difference! By the end of the 112 day program Ed is down to his goal, or somewhere near it. Big Ed is still - well, big⁣

The lesson is that bodyfat, like paper towels, comes off in sheets. In the beginning that fat is spread over a MUCH larger area – just like that outside towel sheet. ⁣

The closer you get to the lean you, the more each lost pound of fat shows, because it is spread over a smaller area⁣

While the outside sheet may only cover one layer of the roll, the inside sheet may go around 4 times. That last sheet looks like it gives you 4 times the results of the first sheet, but in reality, the results are the same – your perception is just different! And you’ll never see the inside, if you aren’t patient while the outside is coming off!⁣

I performed my first filler bag transplant 😂🤣! The original “Big Blue”(a 40lb Strength Bag used for my Clean and Press Test) sprung a leak. This bag gets a lot of use between me and my clients. The durability and low cost maintenance makes this equipment so practical!
