For the month of October, we're encouraging you to ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
. This month, we're focusing on practices, supplements, and testing to keep you running as we shift and enter the cozy reprieve the fall season offers.
๐ Today, we look at ๐๐๐๐ certification. CGMP, or Current Good Manufacturing Practices, helps ensure supplements are manufactured consistently and meet specifications for identity, purity, strength, composition and contaminants.
โ But hereโs why this matters: CGMP certification ensures supplements' potency, stability, and quality are consistently made to industry specifications. Studies show many supplements on the market today include plant material not listed on the product label; other studies show declared ingredients not detected at all in the supplements tested. Elements like heat, moisture, oxygen, light, processing, and storage conditions can affect the stability of certain vitamins, probiotics, enzymes, antioxidants and botanical compounds. A quality manufacturer should have systems in place to control these variables and establish appropriate expiration dating.
๐ So what should you look for?
โ
GMP-compliant manufacturing
โ
Independent third-party testing when available
โ
Lot/batch testing
โ
Certificate of Analysis (COA) transparency
โ
Testing for contaminants such as heavy metals, microbes and pesticides when appropriate
โ
Appropriate potency and stability testing
โ
Quality raw materials with verified identity
โ
Proper packaging and storage
