A lot of people are going to have opinions about how you feed your baby, no matter how you do it. The only opinion that matters is yours.

You don't owe anyone an explanation for how you feed your baby. What matters is that you have the support and information to do it confidently, on your own terms.

That's exactly what we're here for — whatever your feeding journey looks like.

Taking a class while you're pregnant is the single easiest thing you can do to make week one less scary.

Not because you'll remember everything. You won't. But you'll have heard the words before, so when your baby does something at 3am, it registers as 'oh, they mentioned this' instead of 'something is wrong.'

And you'll have met an IBCLC face to face, which makes an enormous difference in whether you reach out later. It's much easier to text someone you already know, who knows you.

Join Holly Scott for Breastfeeding Basics from 5-7pm, Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Shelby County Health Department in Shelbyville.

Whitley County mamas, we're coming to you.

We'll be at the Community Baby Shower tomorrow from 5 to 7 at the Peabody Public Library in Columbia City.

Babe of Whitley County, the Whitley County Health Department, and Anthem Medicaid are hosting, and there will be resources, people, and actual humans to talk to.

Come find our table! Bring the question you've been meaning to Google. Whether you're 20 weeks pregnant and wondering how any of this works, or you've got a three week old and feeding hurts, we'd love to talk it through with you in person. No appointment, no pressure, no cost.

And if you're pregnant, ask us about a prenatal appointment. Most of our families pay nothing out of pocket thanks to insurance coverage.

Tag a friend in Whitley County who should come with you!

There's a specific kind of panic that happens on day two of baby's life, and it almost always sounds the same.

It's the middle of the night, your baby has been on you for forty minutes, and you have no idea if any of this is right. You don't know who to call. You don't know if it's an emergency or a Tuesday.

A prenatal appointment is your opportunity to learn what breastfeeding is really like before baby arrives. You know what's normal, what's not, and who to call if you need support.

That's the whole point of meeting with a lactation consultant before the baby comes.

Send this to whoever is going to be feeding your baby with a bottle. Seriously.

The thing most people don't realize is that a bottle will keep delivering milk whether or not the baby wants it.

At the breast, your baby decides.

With a bottle tipped up, gravity decides.

That's why you get the inhale-then-cry pattern, and it's also how babies start preferring the fast option. It's not ni**le preference, it's flow preference.

Slowing bottle feeding down protects the back-and-forth between breast and bottle, and it makes for a much happier baby at the end of the feed.

It's also an easier feeding experience for all babies, even if they never feed at breast. We recommend it for all families.

Yes, the house looks messy and the to-do list didn't move. But your baby doesn't know what a to-do list is.

Your baby knows they were hungry and you showed up, over and over, for twelve hours straight. You kept baby clean, warm and cared for.

That's not a day where nothing happened. That's a day where everything happened.

In this season of life, chores can wait or be done by someone else. You're doing the real work that matters the most: caring for your baby.

Support groups are awesome, but not every feeding challenge can be solved in a support group.

Megan needed answers. She found them at Milk Guide.

Our team identified a tongue tie and built a care plan that fit Megan's goals and her daughter's needs. Her mom put in a lot of work, and soon her daughter went from eating 0.5 oz a feeding to 3.5 ounces.

That's the difference between surviving feeding and actually thriving. Helping moms like Megan is why we do what we do.
