Could one classroom visit inspire a future CRNA? 🎒✏️🍎

KPNAA CRNAs Jennifer Hernandez and Sally Gubbins visited John Adams Middle School to introduce students in the AVID program to the world of nurse anesthesia!

AVID supports students from low-income backgrounds, including those who may be the first in their families to attend college. Jennifer and Sally shared what CRNAs do, from administering anesthesia for surgery to providing epidurals during labor, and explained the education and training required to enter the profession.

The students had fantastic questions! 👏 From how much CRNAs earn to whether AI could one day take over the job, their curiosity sparked a great conversation and opened the door to new career possibilities.

💙 CRNA Spotlight: Jaine 💙

A career that started with one inspiring encounter at 18 has turned into nearly 12 years of loving life as a CRNA!

After meeting a CRNA in her hometown of Susanville, CA, Jaine knew nurse anesthesia was the path for her. She graduated from KPSA in 2014 and continues to practice at KP SBC Anesthesia today. 🏥

When she’s not in the OR, Jaine is busy being a wife and mom to Quinn (9) and Conlan (7). She’s also participated in two Interface mission trips to Mexicali, sharing her anesthesia skills and gaining what she describes as a truly humbling, eye-opening experience. 🌎🛩

Jaine became an FNP-C in 2022 and co-owns Skinbeam Aesthetics in Orange—another chapter in her commitment to lifelong learning.

And her take on CRNA school? “Definitely harder.”😉

Meet Sarah, KPSA Class of 2028! 💙

Sarah’s connection to anesthesia began when she was a little girl, inspired by her grandmother’s career as a CRNA. She has been fascinated by the OR and anesthesia ever since, and now she’s taking the next step toward that dream, recently beginning clinical at KP Fontana!

Outside of anesthesia, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, scuba diving around San Diego, and cooking with plenty of Louisiana hot sauce—a taste of her New Orleans roots! 🌶️🤿🐾

Sarah says the people are what make the KPSA program so special, and she looks forward to connecting with more CRNAs throughout her journey.

This well-deserved recognition reflects the time, patient guidance, and unwavering support she provides to students every day. Beyond teaching, Veronica founded the Specialty Liaison Program at Kaiser Fontana and serves on the Neuro-Anesthesia Committee, Schedule Committee, and the Onboarding Mentorship Program for new hires. Her dedication to mentoring, enriching students' knowledge, and supporting those around her continues to make a lasting impact on her students and coworkers alike! 🩺💡🙌

Following hard-fought litigation led by the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA), a federal court order has directed the Department of Education to grant Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice in Anesthesiology (DNAP) programs official professional degree status! 🎓✨

As a result, DNP and DNAP students are now officially added to the eligibility list for higher federal student loan limits 💰📊.

Key Highlights:

⚖️Advocacy Victory: Result of dedicated legal action led by the AANA to support student nurse anesthetists

📑Expanded Eligibility: DNP and DNAP programs now hold professional degree status for federal financial aid
