This week we’re celebrating one of Christi’s favorites: Humble Warrior (Baddha Virabhadrasana)
Christi loves it because this pose helps with core strength and mental focus. It keep us humble (hence the name) and humorous. Humble to remember it’s called a practice not a perfection. Humorous to remember to find joy. This pose reminds us that, on and off our mat, our practice is to find patience, peace and perspective.
Why we love it:
💚 The shoulder bind creates a deep chest and front shoulder opening, helping counteract the hours we spend hunched over screens, desks, and steering wheels.
💚 As you fold forward, your front leg and glutes work hard to stabilize the lunge, building lower-body endurance and strength.
💚 While most Warrior poses are expansive and outward-facing, Humble Warrior asks us to bow our head below our heart. It’s a practice in surrender, humility, and finding steadiness even when our perspective is turned upside down.
Quick tips:
✨ Ground firmly through your back foot and distribute your weight evenly between both legs.
✨ Interlace your fingers behind your back and draw your knuckles toward the floor to broaden your chest before folding. As you bow forward, allow your arms to lift only as far as your shoulders comfortably permit.
✨ Hinge from your hips rather than rounding your spine. Keep length through your torso as you fold, bringing your chest either inside your front thigh for more space or over the thigh for a deeper expression of the pose.
