Dear Friends,

I have just received a very touching story from owner Leslie Newman. Thankfully Leslie has given me permission to share it with all of you!

I have long selectively bred for collies with intelligence, stable temperaments and warm, generous, engaged personalities. I am proud and deeply moved by the kindness, warmth and wisdom Psyche brought to the people whose lives she touched!

You might want to have a kleenex handy!
I am attaching a couple of photos of Psyche for you. Psyche is gone now, but never forgotten.

Here is her story...

Our first collie, Psyche, was a certified therapy dog. Therapy Dog International has qualifications, but what she knew, could not be taught.
I was a social worker in an AIDS hospice at the time. A client of mine was just 21 years old, and had but a short time to live. His family did not know that he was gay, and he told them this at the same time that he told them he had AIDS... and was dying. They shunned him. All he had left in the way of family then, was his dog. Because he had to go to hospice, he lost his dog as well. When he arrived at the hospice, he was grieving the lack of family support, the loss of his dog, and was frightened. So I brought Psyche in to see him.

As we walked down the hall, past a number of patient rooms, she seemed to know where we were going, and surprisingly, actually led me to his room.
I have no explanation for this.

Psyche was 85 pounds, and my client might have been less than that. Psyche looked at him, broke free from me, and before I could stop her, hopped up on his hospital bed laying so carefully down next to him. He immediately put his arm around her white ruff and buried his face against her. Psyche lay quietly, clearly knowing what he needed, and she didn’t move for the next two hours while he lay there and stroked her fur. No one could teach her that. She just knew.

He died the next day. Intuitive dogs can bring grace.....

And today I am remembering all the lost young men back then. And all the people who are now dying of Covid....alone.
_________________________

Thank you Leslie for the gift that Psyche was in our lives.

Borrowed from another posting.

When I wear a mask in public:
🔵 I want you to know that I am educated enough to know that I could be asymptomatic and still give you the virus.
🔵 No, I don’t “live in fear” of the virus; I just want to be part of the solution, not the problem.
🔵 I don’t feel like the “government is controlling me;” I feel like I’m being a contributing adult to society and I want to teach others the same.
🔵 The world doesn’t revolve around me. It’s not all about me and my comfort.
🔵 If we all could live with other people's consideration in mind, this whole world would be a much better place.
🔵 Wearing a mask doesn’t make me weak, scared, stupid, or even “controlled.” It makes me considerate.
🔵 When you think about how you look, how uncomfortable it is, or what others think of you, just imagine someone close to you - a child, a father, a mother, grandparent, aunt, or uncle - choking on a respirator , alone without you or any family member allowed at bedside.
🔵 Ask yourself if you could have sucked it up a little for them.

Check your Benadryl before purchasing as they have now started adding xylitol which is poisonous to dogs and cats! Pill I think are ok but check just in case!

Tonight I am pleased to share with you four video clips of Jordan's first harness work in dense crowds.

As you watch this series of clips, how many trained behaviors can you spot? I'll give you a few clues... moving into and/or maintaining working position, line of travel, "marking" terrain changes... and more!

You'll see him applying all his skills in this loud, busy and crowded space!

As always I welcome your COMMENTS, LIKES, SHARES and questions!
Enjoy!

Hello Leslie, Do you ever reduce your prices for needy clients who are unable to pay your fees? I have been contacted by a young woman with spina bifida who is confined to a wheelchair but without the necessary resources to purchase a service dog. Barb
My boys, Cordell & his Grandson Rocky. Both assistance dogs in their own right!
I know this isn’t a collie,This is a Havanese she’s dream dog. Collies are here big dogs. Meet FLYNN,yes LEslie named after Dillee s papa
Wonderful information. Thank you for sharing all of the videos and showing us what is possible.
I love seeing your collies at work! They are wonderful ambassadors for the breed!
congrats Leslie!
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Sandy (Kings Valley Fashion Fling) at 14 years, 33 days (June 4, 2004 - July 7, 2018). There is another hole in my heart . . . . . . .
We visited King’s Valley Collies recently and very much enjoyed our visit with Leslie and the dogs. She took a lot of her valuable time with us, which we appreciated greatly. The dogs were wonderful and we were impressed with Leslie’s knowledge about her dogs and her concern for their well being and for the breed in general. It is great to see the potential of the collie for service being developed.
WOW.....my husband said that I needed to watch the videos... I'm uber impressed! I love them already!!! Truly like my own band of brothers....
We said goodbye to our beautiful girl Sept18th.. Thank you for such a sweet girl.. She was born January 30th 2004, registered, You"ve Made My Day..called Cagney, But I named her "Annie".. She was my best friend for 13 years..
Hey Leslie Rappaport I had some fun on your reviews playing with the trolls that have never met you, your dogs and pretty sure never groomed a collie. Gave me some entertainment to engage in some legal wordsmithing. 😀
This is Michelle Chersky. When in Aug. would be good to come out for a "walk about" How are you doing? What's new in your world? Did you receive my latest application?
