I don’t have words other than I got SPOILED this weekend with a surprise appreciation party and yes I cried then and I haven’t stopped crying since 😂😭🥰
But how blessed am I to have a cup so full that tears are the only way I can express my gratitude?! I kept having the insight during this event - once you think your capacity and cup is big enough, there is actually room for EVEN MORE. The moment you think you can’t handle any more love, we actually can cultivate more! It is limitless what we can do and feel in this lifetime. And what we do with midwifery is so expansive, it is constantly teaching me to stop limiting the gifts, and the wisdom is to let it break through us and teach us and love us and bring us to our knees.

Isn’t that what birth and motherhood teaches?!? Birth is the best at this - once you think you have truly hit a limit, you somehow break past that point and find a new edge. And then your world explodes with now realizing what you are truly capable of!
The juice of Life, my friends!!!

Get yourself friends like Kami Rae Mesa who is truly the Angel of these events and brings her gift of unconditional love into this world! 🥰

Love you all!!! Let’s throw a BIG 8 year celebration next year???? 🎉😍🥰🙏🏼💃🏽🪩

A standard practice in main stream obstetric care is cutting the umbilical cord at 60 seconds. Yall, this is what your cord can look like at 60 seconds! Filled with wonderful oxygen rich baby blood and stem cells! Give that to your baby!!

Midwife standard is often to not cut until the placenta is even out. But definitely not before it is done pulsing and completely white.

Advocacy matters and delayed cord clamping is not about the clock hitting 60 seconds! It’s about slowing down and letting the body and baby do what they know best 🙏🏼😍💙

(Always shared with permission!! From a story for the books birth this week!)

Hiring a midwife means many things! Our breastfeeding stats are one of them!
These are some fun numbers I pulled today from the final 6 week visits of the last 7 years- behind them is an immense amount of work, commitment, tears, triumphs, jumps for joy for every small ounce of growth, and women who are the center of it all, who have taught me everything I know. Each of these mom/baby dyads brought something to the table that I carry with me each time I watch a baby latch!

Celebrating all of these families!!!! 😍🤱🏽🎉

The beauty of Colorado Midwifery! I don’t get to be off call and wandering around in the mountains much anymore, but I still make sure to stop, smell the flowers and admire the joys of Spring turning to Summer!
My photo album is filled with pictures of the moments of “The Village” we all crave, admirations of placentas, dads cutting cords, that fresh newborn alertness as they look at their parents and say “Oh yes! There you are!”!
Behind every picture of me trekking up a new road, or admiration of the terrain of the Western Slope (I went to 5 counties this week alone!), there is a family - filled with the fullness of what it means to bring in New Life - fears, worries, excitement, pride, LOVE, and the acknowledgment of how our culture has just forgotten so so much of what it used to mean to be seen and cared for.

I used to really try to pretend my humanity wasn’t in this work. I thought that’s what Soul work meant? Like if I just separated myself more, I would be a better midwife or something? Spoiler alert: that didn’t work 😂

To bring silliness in the space, to let the oxytocin hit us all like one giant wave, to slow. down. Humans experiencing God in the body. There’s nothing more humbling and more Grace-filled.

Excited to continue to see what arises this summer! Because it has been something made of magic so far, and I couldn’t be more grateful 🙏🏼🤍✨🌻
