Lying Posture Care Management (LPCM) addresses the substantial amount of time individuals with limited movement may spend resting or sleeping in habitual, asymmetrical postures. The RESNA Position on Assistive Technology for Lying Posture Care Management identifies LPCM as a foundational component of 24-hour PCM and advocates for inclusion of supported lying positioning as standard practice.

This one-hour course translates the RESNA position into practical clinical application. Participants will explore the relationship between lying, sitting, and standing posture; recognize potentially destructive lying postures; consider whole-body alignment, comfort, pressure distribution, and safety; and examine assistive technology options ranging from readily available materials to specialty positioning systems. Case examples from the RESNA Position Paper will demonstrate how LPCM can be incorporated into everyday routines as part of a comprehensive 24-hour approach.
