COMING IN SEPTEMBER: Three videos of tai chi meditation sets and one mini tai chi yoga lesson. In preparation- here are the 12 principles of Tai Chi Yoga to study:
THE 12 PRINCIPLES OF TAI CHI YOGA BASED ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF “YIELD AND OVERCOME”
1. Stomach breathing: inflate out, exhale in.
2. Stretching only as far as one is comfortable.
3. What we do for one side or direction of the body, we do for the other.
4. Unwind and stretch in yoga; flow, float, and yield in tai chi.
5. Integration of breathing with movement.
6. The order: a) Yoga Standing and Awakening Movements, b) Tai Chi Movements and Sets, and c) Yoga Settling Movements.
7. Five types of yoga movements: forward stretches, reverse plus side-to-side stretches, balances, twists, and inverted positions.
8. Tai Chi stance: suspended spine, knees bent, hips slightly forward, and an absence of tension; spine supported by thighs, not lower back.
9. Tai Chi pivoting on heels, not on balls of feet
10. Tai Chi as slow-motion, yielding-movement, one-legged balancing.
11. Flowing gracefully from one position to another.
12. Periods of relaxation before, between, and after movements.
