Brief(-ish) explanations of a spa menu: Facial edition.
What is a facial?
The term facial can describe a myriad of different services, but each one is going to contain a few of the same basic elements: Skin analysis, cleanse(s), exfoliation, extractions, massage, masking, moisturize & protect. Facials can last 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, or more depending on massage add-ons available at different businesses!
Who needs facials?
Everyone! Facials are foundational skin care. However, there are times when another treatment may be more appropriate depending on several factors (your home care routine, skin goals, time of year, events you may be preparing for, etc). Consult with your favorite esthetician to see what’s right for your next spa session!
What can I expect from a facial?
Unless the facial is advertised as being aggressive, facials are the relaxing and calming services at your local spa. You’ll be pampered and leave feeling rested, your face will feel soft and rejuvenated. If you don’t mask regularly at home, you may experience some purging (new breakout) the next few days after a facial- this is a good thing, it’s telling us our masking session was effective in stimulating the skin)! *side note: masking is such an important thing to do in skincare!! If you don’t mask regularly- you should start, like yesterday!*
You will not see major changes in your skin from one facial session. This is a maintenance type of service that just helps re-balance skin between treatments, also great when you’re stressed and just need a quick escape from the world!
