Last week was Spirit Week! Kids and therapists alike got in the spirit and dressed their best every day! Monday was Green Day for St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday was pajama day, Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday, Thursday was Sports Day, and Friday was Best Dressed Day!

Today, both clinics had visits from some leprechauns for St. Patrick’s Day! It was such a fun time of looking for them all over. Some kiddos even found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Happy first anniversary to one of our awesome Pendleton therapists, Kelsey! Kelsey has grown so much over the course of this year at Hillcroft. She is always willing to try out new things in a client’s program and she continues to make a huge impact every day. Today was a great day of learning for our staff! The staff from both Pendleton and Muncie came together to learn more in depth about how to better serve and teach our clients. In the morning, each BCBA and PC were paired up to teach a topic at different stations, as well as a station where our speech therapist Ashley taught us more about utilizing AAC devices effectively. The topics covered at our stations were ethics of ABA, probing versus teaching and prompting our clients, using our electronic data collection system, and the functions of behavior.

In the afternoon, our speech therapist Ashley talked to us about the importance of communication for our clients, and all the different ways they can communicate and how we can better foster that communication.

Simultaneously, Michelle, our Administrative Specialist and Trainer, was teaching a PCM class - which stands for Professional Crisis Management - to teach our therapists how to keep our clients safe in crisis situations.

At the end of the day, one of our awesome therapists, Susan, put together an escape room game in which our therapists put their knowledge to the test and joined together to solve the puzzles and escape each room in an international race to the end!

Overall, it was a fantastic day of refreshing our knowledge and practicing our skills to better serve our clients!

Our kiddos had so much fun celebrating Mardi Gras in Music Therapy today! They made masks and sang, “When the Saints Go Marching In” with Anna Wamhoff!

Indiana Medicaid is proposing changes to ABA therapy coverage that will significantly impact those who receive autism services in Indiana. The changes include caps of 30 hours of ABA therapy per week for a maximum of 3 years, as well as other credentialing and operational changes that would drastically limit patient access to care. As one of our most vulnerable populations, we feel that patients should access care based on their level of need and not arbitrary limits that hurt patients and families. Several bills have been filed to halt these severe changes and all patients within the state of Indiana need your help!
