Domestic violence and animal cruelty are deeply interconnected, and for many survivors of domestic violence, the safety of their pets is inseparable from their own. Up to half of survivors delay leaving an abuser out of concern for their pet’s safety — but when human services and animal welfare organizations unite, we create safer pathways for entire families to reach safety.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month – an opportunity to show support for survivors of domestic violence and their pets, and for advocates to unite in their work to end domestic abuse. We at RedRover are excited to offer four special guest presentations on different aspects of keeping survivors and their pets together and safe, and how to provide support to pet families in crisis.
Our first event starts on Oct 7 with our national opening panel: Domestic Violence and Pets: Advancing Safety and Healing
💜 Ashley Rumschlag, National Director of DomesticShelters.org
💜 Katie Ray-Jones, CEO of National Domestic Violence Hotline
💜 Shoshana Mostoller, Director of Programs at My Dog Is My Home
💜 Liz Graham, CEO of 180 Turning Lives Around
Together, these experts from across human services and animal welfare will explore:
