From walking and strength training to speech and balance exercises, staying active can play a powerful role in living well with Parkinson’s.

The Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida offers more than 25 free programs and support groups every week, including wellness classes, speech exercise programs, and caregiver support.

Ever walk into a room and forget why you're there β€” and wonder if it's "just aging" or something more with Parkinson's?
Here's the truth: Parkinson's disease usually affects attention, processing speed, and word-finding more than memory itself. And there's real, good news β€” your brain can still change and adapt at any age (it's called neuroplasticity), and simple strategies like repetition, chunking, and visualization can make a real difference.
In our latest PD Talk recap, speech-language pathologist Judy Jenner breaks down what's normal, what's a warning sign worth mentioning to your neurologist, and the memory strategies that actually work.
πŸ“– Read the full guide on our blog (link here and in comments) and learn how to protect your memory, starting today. https://parkinsonassociationswfl.org/blog/memory-changes-in-parkinsons-disease-causes-warning-signs-strategies-that-help

Did you know your diet might help delay Parkinson's disease? πŸ«’πŸŸ
At a recent PD Talk, registered dietitian Carolyn Bivans, RDN shared research suggesting the Mediterranean diet may help protect the brain β€” and in one study, women who followed it delayed Parkinson's onset by more than 17 years.
Here's what makes it work: olive oil, fatty fish, leafy greens, whole grains, and legumes are packed with anti-inflammatory fats and antioxidants that may help protect the dopamine-producing neurons Parkinson's disease affects most.
One important note for anyone on levodopa: protein can compete with your medication for absorption, so Bivans recommends spacing protein-rich meals about an hour from your dose (always check with your care team first).
Simple ways to start: βœ… Greek yogurt with berries for breakfast βœ… Farro and chickpea salad for lunch βœ… Grilled salmon, quinoa, and asparagus for dinner βœ… A handful of almonds or a square of dark chocolate for a snack
πŸ’› Follow this page for more free, practical tips like these β€” we share real strategies from our PD Talks every week so you never miss the information that helps most.
