Are you pursuing better health, or are you still pursuing thinness? đź’›

It's easy to believe that being thinner automatically means being healthier. But health is about so much more than the number on the scale.

Adequate nourishment, sleep, movement, emotional well-being, relationships, and nervous system health all play important roles.

And sometimes, the very behaviors we use to pursue a smaller body can interfere with those areas of our lives.

In this video, I encourage you to look beyond weight and consider what you're really hoping to gain through pursuing thinness.

Is it confidence? Acceptance? A sense of safety?

What if those needs could be met without putting your life on hold until your body changes?

✨ Watch the full video as we explore the pros and cons of pursuing thinness and what it means to truly support your health.

What are you really hoping to gain by losing weight? đź’›

More confidence? Feeling attractive? Being accepted? Or simply feeling more comfortable in your own skin?

Sometimes, the desire to lose weight isn't really about the number on the scale. It's about what we believe a smaller body will give us.

But what happens when pursuing thinness begins costing us our energy, freedom, relationships, and peace with food?

In this video, I explore the pros and cons of pursuing weight loss (or preventing weight gain) and how the beliefs underneath those desires can keep us stuck in disordered eating patterns.

We'll also look at a simple reflection exercise to help you better understand what you're truly seeking and whether there might be another way to meet those needs.

Pursuing intentional weight loss while trying to heal one’s relationship with food is a part of so many people’s journey. And it makes total sense- wanting to have a different relationship with food and also wanting to lose weight and trying to do both at the same time.

The thing is that if intentional weight loss is a goal, it impacts your relationship with food. As much as you may try to separate them or make food decisions that don’t center weight loss, if weight loss is a goal, it will impact your relationship with food.

It can be a real moment of reckoning and grief when you come to a place of realizing that if you want to heal your relationship with food, you have to let go of weight loss as a goal.

It can also be a place where so much healing happens. It can be a place where so much freedom is found. It’s also a place you might find yourself coming to and getting pulled away from, and coming back to over and over before you settle there.

If you have been trying to heal your relationship with food while pursuing intentional weight loss and wondering why you’re feeling stuck, here is a gentle reminder that the two don’t go together.

You cannot heal your relationship with food and pursue intentional weight loss at the same time.

Are you afraid to admit that you actually like certain foods?

In recovery, enjoying food can sometimes feel threatening. You might worry that if you acknowledge a preference—or give yourself permission to eat something you really enjoy—you’ll want too much or never be able to stop.

But having preferences is part of being human. đź’›

Sweet or savory. Hot or cold. Seasonal favorites or foods connected to memories and traditions. Learning what you genuinely enjoy can be an important part of becoming a more confident eater.

Food pleasure isn’t the problem. Sometimes it’s the fear and meaning we’ve attached to enjoying food that deserves a closer look.
